My boat is 20 years old and the dark blue Gelcoat stripe faded so had it painted dark blue again with Imron. The part of the stripe that curses up directly into the sun light, has started to crack in several places, but not peel. The boat shop claims it's not the paint, the baked hard gelcoat under the new paint is cracking from age and the heat and is not the paint prep. They claim the only way to solve the problem is to completely sand the paint, primer and old gelcoat off and start over(?)
As long as the paint doesn't peel there's nothing wrong with the paint job. Has anyone seen this problem?
