Craftsman polisher adapter

I just went to polisht the boat, and the polisher I have (craftsman 6") has a 1/2" spindle, and pretty much every hook and loop pad is 5/8". I checked sears, lowes, Home Depot and noone has an adapter. Has anyone ever found one of these?

If you go to Sears website and read the reviews on that model you will see the answer is no. I was lucky enough to read those before I purchased one.

I just bought an adapter from 3M to fit my many years old Makita 4" angle grinder, changing its 10mm shaft to 5/8" for the 3M Hookit pad so I could use their Scotch-Brite discs to polish propellers. Perhaps they have one for 1/2 to 5/8" ? A couple days after I ordered the ridiculously priced adapter ($98) I noticed Harbor Freight has a 4 1/2" angle grinder w/5/8" spindle shaft on sale for $18. All in all I wish I had seen that 1st. You might consider the options: Harbor Freight has a perfectly nice #92623-8VGA 300-3000 RPM 7" polisher/Sander with 5/8" spindle for $40 and it includes hook & loop foam backed pad & a polishing bonnet.
 
NOpe, that's the problem with the Craftsman buffer. They also don't make any good velcro type pads etc to fit it . Go to Harbor Frieght and buy a rotary buffer for less than $40.
 
I recently bought the Harbor Freight polisher mentioned above by Sandy. I've bought several power tools from Harbor Freight and I've been happy with all of them. The polisher is a very sturdy, well built tool and I'm shocked they sell it for only $40 or less when it's on sale. I got it for $29+shipping about 3 1/2 weeks ago. Shipping can sometimes be slow with them as I JUST got it Wednesday.
 
I saw adaptor's for the M10 threads like the Makita for $4.00 at Home Depot. As far as the reviews, I read them today, but purchased the buffer a year ago and was never happy with it. Sounds like I'll just buy a new one. $40 from Harbor Frieght sounds pretty good to me, however the shipping scares me. I am hoping to be in the water next weekend. I'll call them.

MJK, do you have a Harbor Freight Store close by? I'm on my 5th or 6th year with that $40 buffer.

Calling them would be my recommendation. The polisher was on backorder but I was never notified of it until it arrived via FedEx. The same day a notice arrived in the mail from HF that it was on backorder. A little late! I should have called to verify that it was in stock.
 
If HF is out of stock, check out out ebay.

Where is a good (cheap) place to buy 7" pads?

I bought mine from the following link. (Boatfix, doesn't sell them) A few people recommended Lake Country pads, which you can find here. They are nice pads.

That's a great site. Those 2 1/2" backing plates with a 4" pad would be great for small areas that are hard to reach and do with a full size pad.

Just got back from Harbor freight in Saddle Brook, NJ. I picked one up for $35 -20%(some guy handed me a coupon). When I aksed someone if I could check to make sure it worked, they told me it was a fire hazard, so I stopped at a gas station and tested it out. Hopefully tomorrow I can get out there.

They have some pretty neat stuff there.

BTW - Sorry Sandy, but I would have spent $50 on an adapter if they had one Friday that fit my Craftsman. I lost a beutiful day because of this.
 
I was told on another site not to use the foam pad that comes with the HF Chicago Electric 7" buffer/polisher as it will just fall apart. So I am looking for some place to order some decent foam pads for use with Buff Magic. Has anyone used the foam pads from this site with the Chicago polisher, and if so, which ones. They need to have the hook & loop backing.

MJK....did you get any extra pads at HF? Keep us updated as to the results of your job.
