The deck was cut for the installation of a new fuel tank . The tank and hoses have now been replaced and the deck will be put back on with a new non-skid surface sprayed on(same as Viking uses). My question is there anything I should look for during this process to make sure I'm getting my monies worth. I know due to the cold it will take 18-24 hours for the new fiberglass to kick but should I ask the fiberglass guy to do anything special. Freddy (from Viking) is doing the fiberglass repair - anyone know of him or have had work done by him?) . I' ve seen his work on older boats , its incredible . My total for the entire job is $9000.. Does that sound right ? I bought the boat for $21,000. and the motors are impeccable at least from the surveyors point of view. Bob Duane was the surveyor . the boat in question is 92 Luhrs 3420 motoryacht . Any advice would be helpful .

Taggguy that sounds like a great price knowing the area.

I would look at similar work Freddy has done and get a written guarantee and make sure he includes spider cracking in the guarantee.

My marina brought down their best glass/Gel guy from Ct. I just had the entire cockpit, ER doors, stairs to the bridge and side seats and swim platform repaired, wet coring removed, new hinges installed on the ER doors done. New glass was used and I had them use Gel Coat. It looks great and cost about $8200.00. I am thinking about having them continue and the repairs are already done and re-gel coat my topside. I can't believe how good the boat looks. They also installed my Lumitek 4 underwater blue high power LED lighting as well. We will be launching in a few weeks around April 1st. There is still a pile of electronic work to be done. I will be heading there this Friday to help install the Class B AIS, FLIR, new radar arch wedge and get my repaired GMR24-HD Garmin radar re-installed and Lumitek LED high power spreader lights installed. There are other projects as well. The Raritain Elegance fresh water head and PuraSan are already installed. I am also replacing an 8' VHF antenna with a 17'5" one to match my 23' HF SSB antenna on the opposite side. This should help increase range slightly. I have done my part for the stimulus. Soon it will be time for some serious cruising. The Kohler rep (Andree) is coming out to load new software in my Kohler 7.3ECD generator after the boats in the water.

tagguy,
Replaced tanks 2 years ago on my 1987 Luhrs 340 and replaced the deck. Did all the work myself.

1-Make sure tank/s are installed correctly, no place for water to be trapped between supports and tanks. I used only Starboard, no wood in contact with tanks. Be sure any metal straps going over tanks to hold them down are insulated against contact with tanks. I used Neoprene strips under straps.
2- Be sure all cross beams that support deck are in good shape and have been installed correctly, not lying on top of tanks.
