Recently while cleaning and waxing my boat I noticed my aluminum around the windshield was spotted. Tried cleaner wax and still see the spots. Any suggestions?

I haven't had much luck with aluminum window frames either. I've tried Flitz, Collinite Metal Polish, and Nevr-Dul(sp?). The rag gets black from removing the oxidation off the surface of the aluminum, but the aluminum seems to be darker not shinier.

Good topic.

You might try massaging in a little Corrosion Block or ACF-50 in a small test area. It seems to help with mine but I'm more concerned with corrosion control than ultimate shine.

Once it's pitted, it's pitted forever. Just visited my brother in FL & he showed me a product for aluminum that made it look like chrome. It was unbelievable but he used it on $1500 motorcycle wheels. I'll ask him for the name & report back.

I haven't worked on mine yet but I plan on using some polishing compound I got from the Harley dealer for taking off the blueing on the pipes - It came in a kit with a sponge applicator you put in your drill, it works great on pipes. I am waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer.

Off topic-- I rode Harleys for about 20 years and the best stuff I have ever used was "Blue Job". If you haven't heard of it, and if you have blued pipes, it's a powder. You take the sponge that's provided, dampen it, dip it into the powder, and then apply it. It doesn't take elbow grease as it's more of a chemical reaction. Works VERY well and is not abrasive as some other chrome cleaner products are. I've seen guys who ultimately buff right through the chrome down to the nickel. That particular product would not work on Alum.

For my truck rims, I like the Flitz ball with their polish hooked to a drill. I just got the Mother's version for Christmas--but haven't used it yet.

Ken, I'll let you have some of my Buff Magic to try. supposed to be good on metal surfaces too.

The product I referenced in my post of 3/6 is White Diamond, available at Harley dealers.

Had to rebuild the windshield on my 88 Cruisers 3170. The aluminum frame was bent and after doing the metal working to reshape & smooth out the wrinkels I sanded the frame and polished with semichome. Aparently it had an anodized coating that made more silver than shine so I have to sand & polish the rest to match the undamaged section. Now, I'm looking to restore the protective coating so it won't turn white. Any suggestions?

Try mothers or Blue Magic it is a cream that comes in a small jar, I'm sure you can find it at Wallmart.
