Last I hear he had moved his boat up to Sacramento to get it ready to take to Oakland for sale. That was a couple of months ago....
 
I haven't heard from Dave lately either, so I sent him an email and invited him to join us this weekend by car. I'll let everyone know what when I hear back from him.
 
Wouldn't it be great if he could make it! I have never actually met him face to face.
 
Thanks for asking, I think I emailed Dave back, but too late to make it down there.

While I have lots of medical problems, the most frustrating issue started with the detox off morphine/Opiates and that is memory loss. If you look for Mild Cognitive Impairment at the Mayo Clinic, that is me. I can speak to you or write you an email while we are "looking at each other", but in ten minutes I will forget what we were doing. Maybe I was blessed with a Pentium V brain with one meg of RAM? Not sure how to describe it, other than frustrating. I will have forgotten about this post in a few minutes. Yet I can drive our boat ok. I write nearly everything down, so if you see me at the boat with my laptop, that is why. Here is an excerpt from the MCI data at the Mayo Clinic:

Symptoms
By Mayo Clinic staff (I cut one paragraph out)

Commonly used criteria for a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment are:

* Deficient memory, preferably confirmed by another person (CHRIS HAS A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLGY AND SHE IS USING ALL OF IT TO COPE WITH IT)
* Essentially normal judgment, perception and reasoning skills (THAT IS ME)
* Largely normal activities of daily living (I DON'T LEAVE THE HOUSE MUCH. AND DUE TO RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS, WHEN I GO TO THE BOAT, I SIT DOWN INSIDE AND STAY THERE. PLUS MY LEGS/KNEES/ANKLES/FEET GIVE OUT AND I FALL. I AM SAFER INSIDE FOR THE MOMENT.)
* Reduced performance on cognitive tests, compared with other people of similar age and educational background (I USED TO LOVE TESTS, NOW THEY FRUSTRATE ME. SEEMS ODD.)

While we are on the subject, I need to find a machine shop or individual in our area who can replace two ... (had to look it up)spring dowel pins in the main shaft. Then put it back together. I looked for the pins in a few places with no luck. It has been out of the boat a few months, I just forget to get it fixed. I heard a guy at an auto shop has his own machine shop. These are "pins" are designed to shear off under the right circumstances. I think I asked on the main forum awhile back, but not sure. Maxwell has one guy down in the LA area, but I was trying to avoid shipping it around. Can't remember why, I think I was hoping to get it repaired locally. I have the schematic of it. Any suggestions appreciated....thanks again for asking and if I don't come back on the forum for a day or two, at least you know it isn't because I don't care about you...Dave
 
Hey DLL - I have been wanting to meet you forever - sorry you could not make it to the meeting. We'll get there. Sounds like you need to re-allocate your RAM usage - it's too bad you can't just plug in another ram chip, but then everybody would be smart and life would be boring!
Maybe when you get ready to move the boat to the Bay, some of us here on the board can ride along and give a hand. I can take orders well and just require a little tequila to keep me going. Write it down - don't be bashfull we are all here in this boating community because it is a lot of work and we each need help from time-to-time - let us know when you are going, post it, and see who can join you! It might be another excuse for a another Boater-Ed get-together! Hang in there my friend...
 
Glad to hear you alive and doing well; you just can't remember that you doing well ;)

I've heard that zinc supplements are good for improving short term memory loss, so I'm take 50 mg a day to see if I am a lost cause or not.
