While backing my trailer the select lever on the hitch for backing keeps
switching itself to the normal tow position, then my breaks lock and I have to
reset the back up lever again and again and . . . . . .

Any ideas?

Take a small loop of bungee cord to hold it forward. The latch is designed to stay in lace until you pull forward. When you pull forward or release pressure it resets to ensure that you have brakes. I have the same problem as I have to back and fill several times and I'm on the top of a hill.

I am thinking about installing one of these. http://www.championtrailers.com/REVERSING_SOLENOID_VALVES.HTM
My trailer has a hitch with equalizer bars and slides back and forth, there is enough room to put a short piece of 2x4 between it to keep it from moving. Every time I back into my drive a have to get out and put the 2x4 in it. Got back home last weekend, stopped to put in the block and found that I hadn't removed from last time. Driving around with no brakes. Not good.
I wonder if Boatfix carries them?? Going to check now.
After reading more of the link, they say it is for disc brakes, I have drum brakes. I wonder what the difference is, and if it will work on drum brakes? Well time for more research.

LOL actually I have been using a large rubber band doubled around the latch and the large
nut below it. I just keep misplacing my rubbers and blocking the whole street till I find
them.

Looks to me that electrical blocking solenoid would work and if it was wired in with a small buzzer it couldn't be left on accidentally? Or wired into backup lights???

The solenoid is made to wire into the backup light wiring. Put vehicle in reverse and it blocks the brake fluid from the master cylinder.

Yes, I have the solenoid on my Zieman with disc brakes and it has worked flawless.

I installed one of those solenoids on a skiboat trailer for a friend of my ex-wife a long long time ago. The woman bitches about everything under the sun, but never about that thing. I'd say they work perfect.
