Fall Hudson River Trip

T-Town has fuel and probably a pumpout.
Roundout Yacht Basin has fuel and pumpout.
Liberty has fuel but the pumpout is on a boat. I had to skip pumpout last time as the boat was out and about. If you're staying there, I assume they can pump while in slip.

Tarrytown and Rondout both have pump-outs, I think they both charge a minimal amount for them. Consider eating at the Striped Bass right at the marina, the food is quite good.

Maybe we'll buzz down on the cc to try to say hello on Saturday, what time do you plan to be at the marina?

I am hoping to get to each marina by 12-1:00. We are leaving around 8-9 from the LIYC, I guess Tarrytown is around 3 hours, but I know we will be stopping to get pictures at the Statue of Liberty. This is my first time doing this trip. I think we would hit Rondout around the same time on Sunday.

We came up to Kingston yesterday; the leaves are just beginning to change along the river, but so far not much, should improve with each passing day. A gorgeous Indian Summer day here today. Had a fun first time visit and lunch with Pete as a bonus! We head back down river tomorrow a.m. What a spectacular cruise this is; I'm so glad we decided to do a sequel!

Rondout - Ship to Shore is a good restaurant - mariners is good for drinks and food is good,

I second the Striped Bass at Tarrytown

not sure what it's like now, but when we made the trip up to roundout and back over labor day weekend there was tons of floating debris in the hudson. so keep a close watch. also, the word's "world's end" on the chart just past west point as misleading as indeed, the world continues beyond there. although with the whirlpool on the chart there as well, i was worried for a bit.

George, thanks for saying that lunch with me is a "bonus"! Its not as good as lunch with Jessica Alba or Faith Hill or Heidi the tool girl, but then again I did get to show you some upstate NY hospitality, and I convinced cousin Earl to leave his banjo at home [:-mischievous]...

I'm posting a pic on the other thread...

We're now en route to Croton Point where we'll anchor out tonight. Just passing Milton as I write this, making 9 knots. What a beautiful day again today! Tomorrow night we'll be in Great Kills Harbor, then off to AC first thing early Sunday morning.

Pete you were kind with your comments on the boat, we like her a lot more "bristol" than she is right now. But by the time Thunderbolt Marine in Savannah, and my band of down island guys in Ft. Lauderdale get done with her, she'll be looking pretty good again. I wasn't looking too bristol myself judging from that photo. We've got to come hang out at that marina you're in sometime, reminded me of a prettier version of some of the spots we used to frequent on the California delta. OK, now we can go back fighting with each other on NBR in the meantime.

George, I'm going to try to get over to Croton on my CC tonight to say hello.

We just got here, anchored out on the middle of the bay away from the crowd, so to speak. A little rockier, but conditions are benign.

Just a fantastic day on the water!

LOL - you're welcome up at the Anchorage any time you want, buddy! And in the meantime we'll have our fun over on NBR - you're a great sparring partner :) ! Good luck and Godspeed on the rest of your trip. Hey, if fuel prices keep falling like this maybe you can open it up to 10, even 12 knots [:-captain] !!!

We had a great time and thanks for all the suggestions from everyone. But as always, Mike (Hogan) was on target.

Tarrytown/ Striped bass, I even stopped back to fuel up and had lunch there.

Rondout / Ship to Shore was great and the Marina was very quaint.

Liberty Landing - A local suggested Light Horse tavern in JC. It was good but pricy and small “artcy nuvo” looking servings. Also ate at the Liberty House at the Marina, it was very good.

The trip was excellent; we even pissed off the CG while taking pics of the Intrepid. We were far enough away, but they must have been board, so they buzzed us like fire flies.

Only one stressed point the whole trip other than dodging logs was as I was leaving Liberty, my lower fuel pump went, and no part in stock at Liberty Marina. Called Marine Max SS3 in Lindenhurst, they had the part. My good buddy BillyK left the marina and did a muiti-point pickup and delivery back to me which saved my A$$ from a lot of hoops and not getting the boat home.

Came home yesterday on very flat seas with a sunny sky.

This trip is a repeater for me… except hopfully no more mechanical issues.

P.S. We did miss not getting to meet any of the HR RO's. So close yet so far. Maybe next time.

Billy took his boat from Liberty to Lindy and back to get your part? Thats a pricey pickup.
No parts at Surfside at Chelsea Piers?

Dave, it went like this….

BillyK and I were going to leave around 9:00-30 Tuesday when my port engine did not start. Did the normal checks and found that we needed a mechanic. Liberty Marina was contacted and the wait began for them to come to my boat. LLM did not have my part and about 3 days to order from Merc. The mechanic gave me a dealer that had the part somewhere in NJ and he offered to pick it up for $175. Billy waited until we found the status around 1:30 and I had to kick him out of his slip as he hated to leave without us but he has a business to run and already expected to be back by lunch.

Around 4:30 I get a call from the mechanic and told me the bad news that when they went to pull the part it was not there, an inventory glitch. I then thought to call SS3 in Lindenhurst, I would assume that they would have advised me if there was a parts department in Chelsea pier. They had 3 of them !! but now it was too f-en late to send me the part next day service. I called Billy and asked if he had a courier service, he said uses is own men for this and offered to deliver the part. Had Marie go get it from SS3 at 8:30AM the next morning and had a worker deliver it by 10:45. I was up and running by 2:30.

Thanks Billy and Marie!!!!

Oh, the way your wrote it, I thought he left by boat, got the part, and drove it back.

Sorry we missed you - catch you on the next go-round, OK?

About the only other suggestion I have up there is Savona's Italian which is across just up the hill from Mariner's.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all the suggestions of where to go and eat, we had an awesome trip. Except for the glitch with Brads fuel pump all went well.

Tarrytown Marina-

Corner gazebo has an excellent view of the Tappan Zee Bridge and Hudson River traffic. Both gazebos have a few gas bbq's and picnic tables. Very boater friendly with a restaurant that has the best Striped Bass I have ever had. The bath/showers are very neat and clean. The floating dock lights need maintenance as when the weather gets drunk out it is a gauntlet out there.

Roundout Yacht Basin-

Very nice trip in and out of the Roundout river. The Marina is nice with more things going on in the summer then when we were there like a snack bar and pool. Even though it was fall, there were still plenty of die hards partying day and night. The taxi drivers to and from Kingston were a trip and made you want to hold on to the "OH F--K BAR" but all was well. Drinks and dinner in town was nice and I didn't realize the importance of Kingston in the old days for commerce and that it was our first state capital.

Liberty Landing-

What can you say bad about a marina that is across from lower Manhattan. The marina is tremendous. We were on D-dock which is near the water taxi and Ambrose light ship that is functioning as a bathroom. A $1.00 water taxi ride brings you first to Manhattan and then back to the Liberty cove but on the opposite side of the creek. It is by far the best deal in NY to go back and forth the Hudson for a dollar. It is then a $1.00 to get back to the marina. On the north side opposite Liberty Landing in Jersey City is a very very nice part of town. Nice restaurants, deli's and pizza.

We went on this trip for the views and we were not disappointed. The river and cliffs with fall foliage was beautiful and not soon forgotten. It is always a pleasure to travel with good friends Brad and Linda and this trip was no different.
