Fire island Inlet

Hello all I'm planning a trip to Block for next week July 14
we plan to go out fire island inlet first thing in AM and if weather permits run outside the whole way, i have never navigated fire island inlet and just would like to get any local current information for getting out. please and thank you .

you will be fine we ran it the other night in a 46 Bertram that draws almost 5 ft and never saw less then 10 ft on the sounder
 
I went out a couple of weeks ago and had plenty of water in the channel. When you pass Sore Thumb you will make a left dog leg and head straight to open water.

Not a straight line, but plenty of water and clearly marked.
If you go in the early AM and are a little unsure, you can always follow out a party or charter boat that comes out of Captree.
 
That's really good to know. I've avoided that inlet for some reason but think I'm going to start using it more
