Hi, I have an 85 Four Winns Santara 235 and the "cradle" that holds the gas tank is rotted as well as other sections of the deck. How long do you think it would take a skilled person (not me) to: rebuild cradle, re-install gas tank, and lay a new floor over the old with proper bracing and attachment? Anybody have experience with Okoume marine plywood? Thanks, sorry if too vague, but my boatyard quoted me MANY MANY hours to do this and I'm trying to get some ballpark hours. Larry

Two guys, two weeks full time, 160 hours total seems reasonable to me.

On that boat? More like a single week, IMO. They didn't mention they would glass any of it (nor is it glassed front he factory) If they were to glass over everything, then I'd say two weeks was in line. I did my 23' celebrity with similar issues, and glassed it in two weekends.

Without pictures, it would be hard to judge.

In my boat, I wanted to swap my alpha for a bravo II. The transom was water logged so it would be inline with providing a good transom to mount the new drive. At this point I was in the pre-planning stage. The next step was inspecting the stringers and bulkheads. The more I looked, the more trouble I found. The term 'Can of Worms' describes the whole process. This was a 24' searay weekender. I ended up replacing 100% of the wood from the transom to the helm. While I was at it, I made the boat more fishing friendly.

Find out what is going to be done and personally inspect prior to and during the process. I'd hate to see a solid tank mounting within a hull with a lot of mush in the stringers and bulkheads. It may not be worth doing the job and a new boat may be in your future.

Years ago I replaced most of the floor and a couple stringers on a 20' boat. I cut out the old floor and replaced it with plywood that was coated on all sides with a layer of cloth and epoxy. Never again had a problem with floor.

I had never done anything like that before. I am not bashful about tackling tasks I have never done before. I do not think it took over 30 to 40 hours for that project. Rebuilding a cradle will conplicate it.
