Ok fellow boaters has anyone made the trip across the sound (not taking the ferry) and can recommend how I can plan a trip on a 48' Regal for a nice day/night of gambling in CT? Trump Marina is a bit far for my tastes. And I'm not too familiar with CT waters and/or marinas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at american warf... ITs the end of the River.... Nice place. U MUST be careful around the groton boat yard. WE all got into trouble there... From taking pictures to not slowing down to there unmarked no wake zone...
They greet u with a center console boat with some cannon on the bow... Not a nice hello

I think you will love American Wharf in Norwich. Make a reservation and then call them on Channel 68 for docking instructions. Great crew with all the help you need to dock.
Going up the river is not a problems. Just watch the channel markers. The Sub Base gurads can ask you to slow down (or stop) for a few minutes, but that's no big deal.
It's one of the nicest marinas in CT.

I guess being from the area seeing a sub being assembled is no big deal... My group of 5 boats was snapping pictures ... rolling video.... My wife noticed Every guard tower had a spotter looking right at us ... and two battle wagons pulled up and wanted to confiscate camera's and video....
After a lenghty chat not a few minutes we were allowed to proceed without first destroying the the cam corder tape and erasing the pics on the digital camera. The Gunner never moved away from the cannon. NEver took his hand off the gun. Was very interesting... ud never know boats go up and down here all day long from the way this went down...
I also thought that the sub in dry dock was just uncovered... They had a tent like structure but no canvas ... so maybe we caught it at a bad time...
It was interesting to say the least ...

It is not only because its a sub mfg. facility, In the wake of 9/11 you are not allowed to take pictures or video of any bridge or tunnel in our area. Next time you go over or through, pay attention to the signs which tell you "no cameras".

Isn't there a rock wall that is just outside the channel and submerged at high tide? Thought I read that somewhere.

There are planty of summerged walls at high tide just (and I mean 10') outside the channel markers in quite a few places.
Some adjustments to the channel markers have been done not long ago and my GPS charts are now a little off from actual bouy positions.
If not famiulre with the river I suggest only a daylight transit to and from the river.
Do not wander to far into the city on foot (past Franklin square) as the area gets rough past that point. I know as lived and owned a business there.

Should not stop anyone from going .. we had a great time and enjoyed the ride.. Just thought it would be well posted....

No direct boat access the Mohegan Sun, dock in New London or Norwich and take a bus/cab up.
