I have some business colleagues heading to LI for a reception on Friday and they like the gambling/casino scene. They're arriving Thursday night and they've asked me to look into this. Isn't there a "floating" casino that runs out of the south shore? Any details or contact information would be appreciated.

Freeport Casino Boat?

Thanks Bobbie. I found them on their web-site, but the number is disconnected, so they're probably not in business. The other, also out of Freeport, sounds like it could be fun for the "gamblers." We really have little interest in that, so if we go with them, I'm wondering what we'd do for 5 hours in the middle of no where with 240 slot machines! Why sea sick?

I know one of the gambling boats went out of business. My father in law went one year... he enjoyed it but said they have regulars that just park there tails on a table and dont get off for the entire time they can gamble. Regardless he had a nice time ...

Not sure why people get seasick. Sort of remember hearing that there are no windows and no way to go outside for air. But all hearsay, combined with a memory loss with age. Someone corect me if I'm wrong please. Again, never been on them.

The casino boat that is running out of Freeport is the M/V Southern Elegance. She is operated by Long Island casino cruises.

She originally came to Bay Shore last spring
and operated by Coin Castle Casino's. That company shut down last fall after another one of their boats was seized by the feds for back taxes.
About 2 weeks ago I noticed the M/V Southern Elegance started running again out of Freeport. under the Long Island casino Cruises banner.
As far as sea sickness goes, I worked on the M/V Majesty for 3 weeks back in 1990. I can tell you that many people got sea sick, mostly at night. I would bring all the sick passengers out on the top deck and line them up in deck chairs. I brought them pretzels, ginger ale and air sick bags. Some times I had 25 to 30 passengers lined up in those chairs begging me to ask the captain to turn the boat around and go back in.
During the day, the winds are usually calm and seas flat. Also, there is a horizon to look at which seems to help sea sickness.
For the evening cruise, many passengers came to the boat dressed in light clothing. The winds and seas would tend to pick up in the afternoon so by the time the boat sailed there was a good sea breeze blowing with some good size rollers. Factor in the rollers, the boat traveling at clutch speed, the cooler temps and no horizon to look at...it all added up to sea sickness for many of the unfortunate.
My advice, take a day casino cruise and only if the winds are lite to calm. If you do choose to go at night, pick a night that the winds are out of the North, usually after the passage of a cold front.

Thanks Adam. This is what Bobbie said, and I'd hate to recommend this to my friends, especially since we wouldn't be joining them. A day cruise won't work since they only have Thursday evening free. The rest is all work. I really appreciate the feedback. I guess dinner out, on land, is the plan.

Thanks, but then I have to drive them to Westchester, wait for them with nothing to do up there, (we don't play those things - boring!), and drive them back. Too much work! Is it still a raceway? My father used to take me there all the time for the trotters. Boy, that was a hundred years ago. They also used to have a fairly decent flea market on Saturdays. We used to live nearby in New Rochelle before moving to Huntington.
