Anyone know if I can use West System 206 hardener as a hardener for polyester gelcoat?

Thanks,
Shel

I don't think I have to even walk down to the shop to confirm, but I KNOW that 205 is a hardener for EPOXY and by extension I'm sure that 206 is also for epoxy (just a different speed).

So ABSOLUTELY NOT. You can not use epoxy hardener for polyester. Different chemistry with epoxy.

You want to use MEK peroxide. Instructions from U.S. Composites says to use double the volume as you would for polyester resin. Tapplastics says to use 20 drops per ounce of gelcoat. You can use less by 50% if you want extend pot life according to Fiberglassite. You don't want to use epoxy hardener.

Ok, thanks guys. I just had a bit of 206 left over and wondered if it might be ok to use with the gel. I'll have to pick up the proper stuff this evening.

Thanks again,
Shel
