Inherited a project boat. Dirt, bird, rust stains in the gelcoat deck and walkways. Anyone heard of a stain remover that really works? Ever heard of DCS 19? Any good?

My 37 SR sat in a harbor for two months one year because of no time to use it issues. Every seagull in the harbor lived on it. It was filthy. While you need to be carefull, this does work. I washed it with strong boat soap. The "stuff" was gone but dark stains everywhere. I got some old boat shoes and a gallon of bleach. I walked around the boat and poured bleach straight out ot the bottle and used a cleaning brush on a stick and boat soapy water out of a bucket and scrubbed it again. Did this on a sunny day and let the solutions work for a half an hour or so. When I rinsed the boat using LOTS of water it was perfectly clean. I let it sun dry and then rubbed it out with Finesse-it II and then waxed it. Lots of work but it was as new when done.

Some things you can try after a good washing with something like Dawn dish-washing detergent.

Liquid Zud

Rust Stain Remover

Rubbing Compound

My detail lady uses Bon Ami. It is made of egg shells and contains bleach but it does not scratch the gel coat. As it cleans, it polishes.

When I was pouring in the gas additive, the pour spout was defective and a bunch of red fluid spilled down the gel coat and onto the swim platform [gel coat, too]. I tried hosing it off with water, but the red stain stayed. I didn't have much time to mess with it, so I sprinkled Bon Ami on all the stain and left for the week. The next weekend, I took the hose and flushed the Bon Ami off. The red stain was completely gone. And I did not scrub, polish or wipe at all!

Let's see some pictures so we can compare before and after!

Our boat had some bad stains after it sat on the hard for a few weeks for some repairs. Tried everything from mild simple green to toilet bowl cleaner with no success.

Eventually got some Aurora Boat Scrub and it removed the stains fairly easily. Magic stuff.

Bon Ami works great. It won't scratch and doesn't contain any chlorine as other bleaches thus won't yellow the gel coat.

Had some stains at the a/c discharge and the Lake OKEE mustache. Used toilet bowl cleaner on a rag. Let it sit for 5 minutes then washed, rinsed and waxed where I used the cleaner...stains gone!!

Bar Keeper's friend from wally world. Don't leave it on too long.
