I you decide to keep your boat at the Haverstraw Marina you need to know that there is a NO REFUND policy in effect.(period)

If your boat burns to the waterline in May-no refund.

If you, the boat owner, passes over the bar (dies) in mid-season-no refund.

If you change your mind one day after you decide to moor your boat there-no refund.

Read the fine print- if you drift from the policy of the Manager, the hammer of swift retribution will fall on you immediately. No compromise, no discussion, no negotiation.
No returned phone calls.

Been there for many years I have no complaints. I don't know of many marinas that offer refunds. Why would you change your mind mid season? I do know of people that have sold their boats and yes it is true they will now refund your money but most people understand this going into it.
So do you care to tell us the real story here?
What did you do to piss off the manager??
I hope you are happy wherever you decide to go!

Dave-

I said if you change your mind about the marina ONE day after paying you will be refused a refund.

You are assuming that I "pissed off" the managers. Could he have pissed off anyone else?

If your boat is destroyed or stolen one hour after arrival- no refund, no adjustment, no discussion.

If you are happy then that is your answer.

Just a warning that the rules will be enforced.

I never likes the aluminum docks there. Noisey and hot under foot.

Makes perfect sense to me, but i think New York has a 3 day contract rule that allows you to bail out if you want.
So its not 1 day.
But if you rent a slip, you are commited to it. If boat is out of water for the season, that's not their issue.
Slip rentals are seasonal and its not easy to rent mid-season.
Now if you bail out and he can rent, then you should be entitled to some refund or you can sublet.

Marina contracts normally say no subletting.

You can not rent your slip!
I have known of people getting money back for a slip but that would be before a certain cut off date once the season has started they have promised that slip to you and took it off the market so I understand them holding you to the contract. However if the boat sank or burned do the the marinas fault I think you might have a case for a refund and damages. If your boat sank due to your neglect or act of god then it really isn't there responsibility and they are entitled to be paid. I'm not saying I would be happy about any of these cases but it is what it is.
If you rent an apartment and sign a one year lease then you will be hold to this one year lease if the owner is nice and has other people that want to rent it he/she may let you off with a few months of penalty but that is at their discretion.
My parents first boat was kept at Haverstraw marina back in either 79 or 80 I really don't remember I'm thinking 79 I have been boating on the Hudson for many years and I've tried other marinas I was happy at other marinas but my current boat has too deep of a draft making unreasonable to keep it anyplace else so I continue to stay there. Maybe someday I will move it out to the sound or maybe I will just get smart and give up the hobby I would have a lot more money!
If you are not happy that's fine it just seems odd starting a threat stating the this marina follows the rules of their contract like any professional business.

Not only cant i sublet my slip at Sterling Harbor, they have the right to use it for transits when I'm om out elsewhere.
I think Dave (CurrentSea) is right about NYS 3 day rule

I have been at HM for two years now. The place is going downhill quickly. The absentee lease holder refuses to put any money into upkeep. I have had to replace light bulbs on the dock, because otherwise, no one else will. There is NO security, this year the lock on the gate doesn't work. The bathrooms are atrocious.

The office closes at 5 PM, and everyone goes home. So on Fridays, when people are arriving, there are no dock hands to help them after 5. If you are a transient arriving after 5, forget about anyone directing you to your slip or helping you in. I have seen boats come in after 5 and leave before 9 the next morning without paying. If you need a free slip overnight, that's the way to do it.

Docks are not cleaned of constant huge piles of bird ****.

The only thing going for it is deep water. We are seriously looking into moving our boat to the CT shore next season.

At some point I will likely join you in CT but not for those reasons. I like the idea of being on the sound but I love being 15 minutes from home with no tolls. Wait until the bump up the TZ bridge it will cost a fortune to run home to pick something up.
It is early in the season I believe the lock will be fixed and my end of the docks seem to be clean! If they don't fix the lock I will offer to do it at a discount being it is one of the things I do. I'm happy here but I know you have friends that have moved to CT and are happy there as well. Rising Sun has been there for years and is very happy as well.

I thought the same and last year we moved boat to peconic which made my boat commute go from 20min to almost a hour with traffic.
You learn when to go to beat traffic and to be honest, we used the boat more. Main reason was there was so many new places to go.
So it's a good idea, but unlike you guys, I own my slip, so I kept my slip in GSB. Once you move, moving back may be tough!

I might as well continue the hijacking of this thread ;-)
After decades of boating on IL sound, first from Westchester and then from Huntington, I moved my boat to Greenport some 6/7 years ago and now have the new boat there.

It’s opened a whole new world even with the 65+mile ride taking 1 to 2 hours depending on traffic! I can’t imagine getting tired of the area and all that it has to offer.

I would guess that being based on the sound also opens a whole new world of options than the Hudson has to offer for some of you guys.

If the ride is a PITA, if you can, just plan on staying on the boat for longer periods of time. For me once my new ride is set up a little better I’ll spend the season there.

. . . There's deep water and new docks right across the river, Mike. 10 minutes south of Bear Mt. Bridge.

It would take me as long to get there as it will to get to the western end of the Sound. Beside that, being on the sound will save us 2+ hours each way getting there, and opens up a lot more places to anchor than just Croton and Bowline.

I like being only 20 minutes away, but if doubling that gives me much more to do, it's worth it.

Dave, if I can't afford the toll, I shouldn't be boating.

To give credit, the lock on the gate is now fixed.

If the town got rid of the absentee landlord, and put someone there who cares about boaters, and is willing to invest money to bring it up to the standards of marinas who charge as much as HM does, it would be a great place.

Different strokes for different folks!
I love the Channel club but there is not a chance I would ever keep my boat there for the season that is way to far a ride both by car and by boat to get out to open water. I do hope to visit this summer hopefully sometime in August.

why don't you guys chip in and buy out the marina! I was impressed with Haverstraw first time I was there.
Second time, some kid puked in the pool and it was closed on a very hot day!
The docks are annoying with the noise.

Agree with Andy though, moving your boat to a new location opens up a whole new world. I wish I did it again this year.
I tried this before, but we should start a forum where we can swap slips. I know some marina's don't allow this but it's a great idea.
I would move my boat to Haverstraw for a couple of weeks while someone comes to GSB for a couple.
Start our own Recipricol marina program!
