I take partial exception to that comment....the refrigerators are gone, the Hudson is clean. But man, watch out for the dead bodies. Another TZ jumper on Friday and an illegal immigrant killed himself with a shot to the head then jumped in the water in Peekskill...or something like that.
Be careful travelling under the TZ, there were two suicides on the same day just two weeks ago....look up then floor it!
I hope there's little damage to the boat and it was a soft landing.
All I can say is I have been humbled!

Id love to have some kind of excuse but i have none. It was a long 8 hrs of beating the heck out of myself ill tell u that . My kids, wife and dog all were great... I have a good crew I trained them well...

Rob, that is not fair; I was not even there… I was in Kismet. News and Digital pictures can travel fast. This morning not knowing the progress of your situation, the first thing I tried to make contact with Don to see if I could help. I ended up speaking with him and finding out you were back and you were ok, news on the boat was still sketchy. Glad you are ok, but before shooting someone, know the facts, I truly would have done anything to help.

Glad to hear all is ok and your family is still together and noone held a mutiny and made you walk the plank. Though in 1 foot of water all that would of happened is you would of landed in waist high mud.
Kind of ironic though. They guy who complains about the buoys and then the lack of buoys bites ya. Those darn buoys!!

A few things ID like to share. First the BOAT US guy " Paul " was awesome. Nice guy , friendly and most important knew his stuff.... The bridle is one heavy piece of rope.
I was surpised at how EVERYONE wanted to use cell phones. Same with USCG AUx that came up ... hailed me a cell phone # . Very odd....
We had a NCPD Helio over head circling for a few minutes. I tried to hail him on 16 ... got no response.
But the most bothersome thing to me was how almost every boat blew by us. We were maybe 20 ' out of the channel and possibly 80' before a no wake zone. One would have thought people would throttle up after the vessel in distress.... Nope ... nothing like sitting there hearing these guys hit the throttle and waiting for the wave to come POUND ur runing gear into the sand....
NICE.....
oh and having ur buddys come and take pictures.... thats priceless..

You all know that I enjoy following the LICC comic strip. Creative writing, good plot, memorable characters and whatnot...
So, Rob, really, what's the REAL story behind this apparent beaching? I mean, nobody I know actually admits to sh!t like this, so there has to be another, totally unplausible, readily deniable, and somewhat credible story!
You were in the head with autopilot on for a only a brief few moments. You spilled hot coffee in your lap and when you looked up, you had to swerve to avoid hitting a cormorant. The kids inner tube you were using as a donut self inflated unexpectedly. ?

Sadly no pipe cleaning... coffee spilling , hooter watching was going on... Just failure to follow basic channel markings... In this case two BIG white mph signs... Sadly i was aiming for the two behind these in ANOTHER CHANNEL .... The wife caught it but by the time it registered somethign she was saying might possibly have relevance... well as u see too late.... I guess i have to work on the wife squelch control .

Recieved your email today Rob, look like you got back home at 11:30 or so, not to bad, I was thinking it would be much later.
Did you try to run on your own power, then decide to have them tow you?
Not sure if I told you, but on March 25th of 2003, first crusie with my 2003 Amberjack, I ran aground (hard) in the same place. Four hours later, the tide came up and I floated myself off, did no damage (outdrives) but had a sh$t load of sand in my strainers.
Glad to hear all of you were safe and know one got hurt. Hope they fix whatever needs to be fixed fast!

Ok, im assuming Rob has been doing this a long time....and by the looks of that really nice boat, i'm assuming he has some great equipment.......what hope is there for me and my 28' Rinker? Man i'm in trouble!
Good thing is that everyone (including the 4 legged friend) is fine......other than your ego and potential weeks of "you never listen to me" comments from the wife!
If i had come a cross you, i would have stopped to help, but i'm pretty sure i would have been stuck right there next to you then!

port motor stainer was full of sand... ( more then half way ) Stb side didnt feel that great hence asking for the tow ... there pulling the boat as we speak...
Great guys over at blue water yacht club.
Walter with the wind blowing like it was there was no way i was getting myself out of this . The BOAT US guy came early and got set up as to prevent the rising tide from pushing me greater into trouble. Again ... they did a great job....

Rob brings up a good point that we can all learn from.
With a boat the size a weight of a 44 footer, you can do a lot more damage trying to get out on your own. I don't know what speed Rob was running when he hit but there is a lot of potential to bend props, shafts and rudders as well as suck up sand into the intakes.
The first thing to do is shut down the engines, put out an anchor, make sure no one was hurt and check the bilge for water. Don't be afraid to signal boats to slow down so they do not wake the heck out of you.
Also, if you do unground on your own, don't for get to clutch into forward and reverse and check for vibration from the props and shafts. Also check your steering by turning the wheel 3 times from lock to lock. Check the bilge for water and watch the temperature gauge for overheating. If there are any problems. put out the anchor.
I was working seatow in Oakdale and was out of radio range but did here towboat US relaying the info back to Bay shore.
You caught a bad break but you'll never run aground at that spot again.
It always seems to happen that way, the minute you stop focusing 100% it happens.

Reason for my question was to see if you were able to really know if you damaged anything. My guess is you may have just need to re-balance the props, at least that is what I am hoping for.

There is a lesson to be learned from all this:
If you guys would quit screwing around on this board and get serious about boating - instead of worrying about Walter and Dave's love life - stuff like this wouldn't happen.
