How do I clean the ski locker drain

Hi all,

On my 1987 Chap we have a ski locker area in the middle of the floor. There's a small hole in there that drains into the bilge area to go out. I am going to put bilge cleaner in the bilge area but I think my ski locker drain line is gunked up because it does drain water very well. It's carpeted in there (at least part of the way up, it goes way forward into the hull) so how do I clean it? I thought about taking a thin, long dryer vent cleaner brush and going in there but didn't know if that was wise.

It's keeping my lines and carpet damp so I have to do something. And I can see a bit of water just below the floor in the hole.

have you tried water pressure from the nozzel of a garden hose?
 
Before using the brush I would just use a stout wire. Clean as much as you can with that and then use the brush. After all else is done do final clean with high pressure water.

Nope, I haven't tried anything yet because I didn't know if it was a tube or something I would risk detaching or something. Unfortunately, it's in the water at the dock and I don't have water but I'll try the wire and brush to start.
 
Pull out the carpet and replace it with dri-deck tiles. then you can pull them out when needed to remove debris. Otherwise you just squirt the hose in there to remove sand and such. Drains really well.
 
I did what Paul mentioned. We have a 22 chap. and I unsnapped that carpet and have dri-deck in there. That is just a straight hole, but don't stick your finger in there, there are fiberglass shards that will stick ya.
 
Our carpet isn't snap in (I wish!) so I don't think I want to go that route. When I put the bilge cleaner in today along with the required 10 gallons it came back up into the ski locker area a bit. We ran the boat for an hour to slosh it around good and then bilged it and the ski locker area drained right down the way it used to so I think my issue is all resolved.
