Looking for recommendations on a NY/NJ/CT business that does quality painting of hull. Any recommendations on best type of paint? (2006 52 Searay Sedan Bridge) Thanks.

There is a painter at the Canyon Club Marina in Cape May. Does excellent work.

The further south you go the cheaper it gets.

Thanks. I'll make contact with them to get some details.

We had our 47 foot boat painted by Rich Terpening of Watercolor marine who operates out of Roundout Yacht basin at Kingston NY. We painted it in Awlgrip about 10 years ago and it was still in great shape 3 years back when we sold the boat.
Wintering at RYB was less expensive the few years we stayed there and they took good care of our boat.
The awlgrip was much easier to take care of and 'shed' dirt and stains real well.

Robyn's Nest said it gets cheaper the farther south you go. Well I live in Florida, and to me at least, it still ain't cheap#128547;.

Get a price in CT and let me know how it compares to Florida.......

One company here in FL advertises $100 per foot, hull only. No idea about the quality of their work. I'm getting hull and topside for $260 from a different company. My boat is only 25 ft and sits on a trailer (it's a pocket cruiser) - so no haul out required. I believe my choice does good work. Let you know in about a month.

Brewers Dauntless Shipyard, oops Safe Harbor,in Essex, Ct does full boat painting. They have very high end clientele including some big Vikings and Grand Banks on a regular basis.

Anywhere in CT was more money that Viking or Bluewater in Hampton Va.

Narrowing it down. Some places can't get my boat into their shop. Viking does clearcoat over the Awlgrip which was new info for me. Dauntless can but usually doesn't so if anybody can share positives and negatives of that it would helpful. Waiting to hear from Canyon Club. Dauntless is a little less expensive but not enough to factor in the decision process. After boating on the Hudson for 40 years, I am moving to Yacht Haven on the sound in Stamford Ct.so obviously Dauntless would be much easier. Any other thoughts on these two would be helpful. Thanks for the guidance.

When are you planing to have this work done? Is this a next winter project?

Spring. It should only take two to three weeks so the plan is to launch as soon as possible.

I wonder why you would do clear coat over awl grip except to create a repairable barrier. Awlgrip is a polyurethane and shines real nice all on its own.

Was just told that it gives you a "deeper" look and hides any imperfections in the paint but actually makes it more difficult to repair if you scratch into the paint. Think I'm going without. Now just need to finalize color. Hard to do unless you see it on an actual boat.

You can't paint over an imperfection with clear. You were right to decline. Are they spraying or brush and tip? If they are spraying it are they doing it in a controlled booth?

Yes, spraying in a controlled booth. At this point I'm really struggling on choosing a color. Impossible to do from a chip and finding a boat with same paint is nearly impossible as well. Not getting painted until spring so I have time on that.

We kept our hull color as close to original as possible which makes it much less obvious when your inevitably scratch the paint. We already knew that we liked the look so it was an easy choice.
