I know this is going to sound stupid.

1. Wash the boat with Dawn or something
2. Put Buff Magic on with Brush (small area)
3. Buff with their 7 inch pad meant for Buff Magic

Now.....do I wash again to get off all grit or not??????

Put Pro Polish on.

By hand or do I put it in the ProPolish Pad I bought? And apply it with 7 inch polisher? Or is the pad to polish after I put it on by hand just like the Buff Magic??

BTW: All purchased from Boatfix delivered in one day...unhappy Shurhold wouldn't return my email so I'm posting here even though this topic has been beaten like a dead horse.
 
Don't need to wash again after the Bff Magic. There will be very little resdue after using the buffer. I "buff" that off with a terry cloth towel. I then put Pro Polish on by hand with a foam applicator and let it dry, then buff off by hand. I do the entire hull both sides before buffing off the Pro Polish. I do the Buff Magic part in 3-4 foot sections.

How many coats of PP do you use. A fellow just had his boat done with BM / PP and there are a lot of swirl marks in it. These are not fiberglass burn looking swirls, just looks as if the PP is still on there and the job is incomplete.
 
I rinsed with water before the Pro Polish, love the resul! Maybe your friend didn't lit it fully dry / applied too much Pro Polish before buffing? Wouldn't hurt to go back over it with a microfiber towel, i'd expect.

Sounds like your friend didn't know how to use a buffer.

Did he apply the Pro Polish by hand?

The detail was done by a pro who has been in the business for 25 or so years in the local area. He said he has been using BM/PP for 3 years. I was impressed between the before the the BM....the PP....not so much.

I don't know if he applied PP with a buffer or by hand. Based on the comments above, it does indeed sound like an excess on the surface that needs to be removed.

I was going to use him primarily because the buffer costs vs. his price makes the whole detail about $150. The time is secondary because I like messing around on the boat and if it takes a day or a couple of weeks to get it right, I am not concerned.

I use two coats of Pro Polish. SOunds like he didn't get it all off. I'd put another coat on to remove what he left on .

I'm not sure I understand this concept, are you saying that the cost to have someone detail your boat less the cost of the buffer is only $150 if so, what happens next year when you already own the buffer? How much will you save then? If you enjoy doing the work I suggest that you do it yourself you will do as good if not a better job because you will take your time and you care more. I'm in the middle of doing mine and it not that bad. Like you, I'm enjoying the work and it's coming out great. It's a great way to get to know you boat. So far I have less then two days into it and less then a day left to finish.
