We had a fantastic trip, two weeks, went to Lloyd Harbor, Greenport, Block Island (where we saw rommer, Robyn's Nest, Relentless & Starry Night) Mattituck and back to Lloyd.

Other than July 4th & 5th, the weather was fantastic, the boat ran well - once we replaced the circulator pump on the starboard engine.

We saw the Oyster Bay fireworks as well as the Sag Harbor and Greenport displays.

Caught squid on Block Island, as well as plenty of clams each day.

Got back yesterday and took today to clean up and unload the boat. Very sad to leave her behind up at the marina.

Welcome back Mike. Glad to hear that everybody is back safely and smiling.

Just got back today too.

1 night on a mooring at Pt. Jeff, 12 nights at Block, 5 nights at Montauk. Fished 4 days in Montauk. When the powers that be chose 19 1/2 inches for the New York limit they knew what they were doing. Tossed more 18 and 19 inch fish back that would have made it to the dinner table in NJ waters. Caught 6 keeper Sea Bass, 4 shorts, 4 keeper Fluke and tossed back about 20 shorts, and the usual skates and one dogfish and one giant Sea Robin. Couldn't fish too long each time out, kids on the boat wanting to go to the pool. Also one nice 19.5" fluke caught in my dingy outside of the Block Island Salt Pond entrance on the first drift.

The 4th at Block was a blast, haven't done it about 13 years. Going again for the 4th next year for sure. Have my bait freezer filled with squid ready for the NJ fluke/Sea Bass season starting next week for me.

Didn't do too badly on fuel, about 460 gallons round trip including the genset, boat ran at 27+ knots most of today, perfect day to come home, tide in our favor, flat water.

Yesterday was rough and super windy at Montauk, fished about 2+ hours on a friends 56' Ocean, nice and stable in the rough drift. Nobody got sick which is always a plus with 4 kids on board.

2 1/2 hour wash down today and back to work tomorrow. Summer vacations are way too short!!!

Just touching base to say hi...

Still playing out east. Enjoying some great weather in Marthas Vineyard after spending 5 days in Nantucket since leaving the HRCC crew in Block Island. (As one of the founding members we shall always consider Robyns Nest a HRCC'er even thou he has moved downstream)

Great time overall except we keep picking the worse days for travel. I guess it's better to spend the bad days traveling and the good days in port? hhhmmmmm.... Might have to rethink THAT one! ;)

Heading to Montauk the end of the week and then homeward bound on the weekend. Amazing how fast the time flies when you're on the boat.

Hey John,

My marina is technically on the Hudson River and I have not submitted my resignation from the HRCC!!!!! LOL.

You don''t have to be in Stony Point/Haverstraw to be in the HRCC, ask Dan and Pete, George, etc.......

Have a safe trip home, enjoy the rest of your voyage.

Jonathan

OK, just checked the charts and it looks like you make it by about .5 miles! ;)

Wow, that looks pretty!!!

Glad you had a good trip, Mike!!!

Rommer,

Tammie and I are at Montauk right now, arrived today after 4+ days at Essex. We'll be here until the end of the week, heading home Sunday. We're here with a couple other boats and a couple more on the way, it's a fishing club trip. We'll be fishing each day if weather permits. Where are you staying? We're at Montauk Marine Basin, hopefully we can get together at some point.

Jonathan, we've never gone to Block for the 4th, I was telling Tammie last week we should plan that for next year.

Leaving Vinyard Haven for Montauk Yacht Club today. If we can find our way thru the fog that is!

John,
Sounds like a great trip and we may be doing it later the season, we have been to the Vineyard before
When your back & settled can we get some feedback and things to see & do in Nantucket

Almost 5 hours of mostly fog with visibility down to 100 feet or less in some places but we made it. Drinking heavily now....

I thought I saw Bob out there but it was a ghost ship! ;)

Seriously though tracking stuff on radar and not being able to ever see it is interesting. Even more interesting was when you do finally see something and it really does look like a ghost ship.

We have done fog before but today was the longest and thickest. At times seeing past the bow was difficult.

Makes you appreciate the clear calm days even more doesn't it!!!

Jonathan

BTW - whomever said when it's foggy the water is calm has never traveled the RI or Block Island Sound

So far this trip hasn't had any of those Jonathan, do they still exist?

(Not trying to send the wrong message, we're having a great time but the travel days have not been picture perfect by a long shot.)

Luckily for us, except for the fog & chop we ran into on the way to Block, every one of our travelling days was gorgeous - clear and calm, even had the tide WITH us a couple of times.

Bob & Bobby got whacked with that intense storm that blew east across the island yesterday, but they managed to come out fine.

When we ran out to Block Island from Montauk at the end of June, we were able to see Montauk Lighthouse, Block Island and Rhode Island as well as CT all in one view. Amazing. Once in a life time
