I would like to keep a stern drive boat in the water in the Delta but as close as possible to the Bay. Can someone tell me when the water starts to be fresh water in the Delta so I would not have to flash the engines every time I go out?
Thanks

My two best guesses would be Vallejo or Antioch. You might check with the folks at the Bay Model in Sausalito.

I have always been told, depending on the amount of rain coming down the American and Sacramento River, the brackish water is around Antioch and Pittsburg. Which this year means it may be salty around Rio Vista

I had a boat at the Antioch Marina. All boats there were in the water full time, with no fear of salt. Things may be different now due to the drought. Since there has been no rain to flush out the delta, the salty water may be creeping in farther then normal. Of course if we get the pending el nino, all that may change in the coming months.

Thanks for your comments. It sounds like Antioch could be a good compromise.

Another choice might be Martinez. It also has a cool downtown within walking distance of the marina.

Martinez is quaint little town but the water is definitely brackish there. Anywhere west of Martinez will be salty. Pittsburg and Antioch is much fresher water.

My boat is in Pittsburg Marina. Since the drought we have salt or brackish water. We are starting to get barnacles on the pilings at the dock.
