Thinking about moving my boat from tn river to panama city florda. called boatUS and asking about insurance.

current 860.00
in PC 3388.00
the kicker... if i chose one of 3 marinas in panama city the rate will drop to 1042.00.

Question 1, why?
question 2, how do i get a list of all marinas that have lower rates?

Not sure I understand how the choice of marinas can have such a dramatic effect on the price? Abilty to haul and shelter a vessel in a named storm?

It might have to do with the federal hurricane zones with only 1 of the 3 being in a safer zone?

I will not be renewing with BoatUS this term they raised my rate by over 30% I made one phone call and beat their new rate by 50% they are really going to kill their business if they continue like this!

Audrey II, That 50% discount is a sucker rate. They sucker you in with a huge discount and them jump your rate up at renewal time; or they drastically reduce what they will cover......

hackalar, I suspect some marines fair better during hurricanes either by location or they do a better job protecting boats prior to the hurricane's arrival. Why not call one of the discounted marinas and ask them?

I know several members of this site that have been using them for years and recommended them to me.

Try NBOA.
They are in Florida and brokers that find you the best rate.
Been with them for 14 years and rate has always been low!

My office represents all the major carriers . if anyone wants a quote feel free to get in touch.

Dave be careful read the new policy especially the fine print. Make sure for a 50% discount you are getting the same coverage. Check the environmental spill clauses and salvage these are 2 areas that people often over look and figure it won't happen to me so why worry? If either happens and you are not properly covered you will wish you never owned a boat!
I'm just saying proceed with caution.

This is a major underwriter in the marine industry! I could list a number of ROs using them but its not for me to say. Keep in mind the quote of 50% is compared to the new inflated price from BoatUS it not far off of what I was paying a few years ago. It looks to me the biggest difference in the policies is I will have a higher deductible 2% rather then the 1% I can life with this.

Read the first one.

This patter is beginning to sound repetative!

LOL I was on a cruise ship and the internet was very slow I guess I hit Submit thinking it didn't work the first time

Just a update I had complained on the BoatUS website about the renewal quote and I was asked to call to review the quote we made a couple of adjustments and I will be renewing with them once again. I have been very happy with them for many years they have been there for me in times of need! This is a comfort level I'm willing to pay a little extra for. I greatly reduce my premium and raised my liability I agreed to a 2% deductible and they came in less then I paid last year, I'm very happy with the new terms.
