lucky guy

I wonder if the vessel was using a MOB alarm, such as the Raymarine LifeTag. Were I involved on an around the world sailing race, I think I would e using one ( or equivalent ). MOB is a real danger...

That said, the man in the water appears to have been reasonably well prepared, and the crew was successful...

With 20/20 aftersight, LifeTag and one of the very small PLB's like the ACR AquaLinks and OceanSignal's tiny RescueME PLB1 sure would have felt like mighty valuable items to have attached to him floating around out there. But he did indicate he was expecting his lifeline to come taut and keep him attached to the boat. That's great they found him after so long in those conditions.

As Getakey says, ...LUCKY GUY. At least at the end of the event.

PLB's are awesome. I could find Elvis -at night in a blizzard, and before dinnertime - if he had a PLB transmitting.

I agree Mike, also some of the new or latest MOB's are using AIS in addition to the 406 which will help local boaters or commercial ships possibly locate and find the MOB quicker. It's all about recovery speed before Hypothermia sets in and eventually kills the MOB.
