Silly question, but one that's got me stumped-

I have no problem gettin' all the crud off the inside of the grill, but I can't find ANYTHING that'll remove that gold tinge created by the heat and make it silver again.

Any ideas? Would Tarn-X do the job?

You have too much time on your hands if you are worried about cleaning the outside!

fire up the grill till it gets warm, shut the grill off and apply EZoff oven cleaner. be careful though, the fumes are brutal when applied to a warm surface. then just scrub it off. use rubber gloves or you will have nasty burns on your finger tips.

Try Bar Keepers Friend, it should be available in your grocery store. Works well on alot of stubborn stains and isn't as much of a PITA as oven cleaner.

I use 3M polish/wax and it works great! It won't remove the light tan discolor caused by the heat.

It's a good rainy day project.

The golden discoloration is from heating SS. All the oven cleaner in the world won't take it off. The only way is abrasive polishing.

Bar Keepers Friend (recommended by Harlan) works well on SS cookware and is recommended by All-Clad just for that purpose. Another one is a product called "Blue Away" which was made just for removing heat discoloration from SS, tool steel and chrome alloys - you might find it at a good hardware store. You can also try a good metal polish, like Fltiz. Avoid anything with waxes in it (not good when you next fire it up) - if you use a 3M product, make sure it is a pure polish (like Finesse-It). All should remove the color (with applied elbow grease) and maintain the polished finish.

You might want to try Blue Magic Cream (www.cargobluemagic.com). It takes the heat discoloration off of motorcycle headers, etc.

Make sure you use the cream, in a tube. It can be found at many autoparts stores.

Have to clean ours every week on our charter boat. We use any type of deruster (acid) with a green scrubber. Wear gloves. If you've left it a long time the first clean takes a while. If you want to keep it shiny, a quick clean after each use dont tanke much effort.

That's exactly the info I need. I'll see what works best. Thanks!

I remove the stains on the bottom of my pots and pans with water and the Mr Clean Eraser. It is best if done each time the pan is washed. I bet it would take stains off of your SS marine kettle, but the gold color causes from heat is the "patina". Just polish it up with the Eraser!

LCR, Lime-Scale-Remover. Its an acid used to clean scale buildup in bathroom fixtures available at any major grocery store. The stainless should brighten up on contact or with minimal elbow grease. Wear gloves.

Hand Cleaner "Goop" works quite well on my Magma Grille takes off the gold burn. Also is good for removing stains elsewhere.
