By now you all may have noticed the large piles of marsh floating around. Sunday, I was offshore, and I came across quite a few piles of this stuff. I always came off plane, and went through it slow, just in case there was any wood hiding beneath.

Question-can this stuff jam up on a B3 drive? Reason I ask, a few times I got a nasty vibration while trying to plane, maybe 3 times the whole day. I thought the marsh was stick like, hard to suck up, am I wrong? Each time, I stopped, reversed it, and it seemes to be fine.

I checked the oil levels, they were fine, and the props were nick free, so I am hoping it was something as simple as junk in the water.
 
My question still stands from my other post... Who cuts the marsh land? I have never seen anyone actually doing it. I thought the grass just died and re-grew each spring. That would be a huge job by water.
 
I just ran with the previous post, like the term "marsh cuttings." A lot of marsh cutters in Freeport.

Come on buddy... do u really think someone cutting the marsh.....

We cant get buoys , or marina's repaired... there not and is no reason to do so...

Now garbage on the other hand id like to see

I thought I missed a whole new culture. A big-ass boat would go to some “corner marsh” and pick up a bunch of “marsh cutters” waiting for a days pay. Then stick-em on some modified marsh boat with a weed whacker….

But now it makes me wonder why my landscaper was late with the spring clean-up. [:-boggled]

Jobs ok… a bit of a culture shock. Going from the Radio / Media industry to a College / University environment was a big change. But basically I am doing a very similar job as Director of Application Development instead of VP of information Systems. The IT department is at the main campus in NYC, so I still trek into NYC each day, but try to schedule some meetings out east. They have a Health Science campus in Bay Shore and a brand new state of the art Law campus in Islip by the fed building. Need to come up with reasons for meetings on the island.

The good part is I get all the Jewish holidays off and get to leave at 2:00 every Friday. Not too bad for a W.A.S.P. Question…. How do you spell….. Oy-Veey
 
Brad.......if you could schedule some meetings at Watch Hill or Atlantique......now your doin good !!

My neighbors. He picked it up late last year. Sold his beautiful 33' Egg Harbor for it. Says the difference in fuel is about 10-12 gallons an hour. Does weekly runs to the canyons, and the big blocks in the Egg were killing him and his fishing buddies.
 
Actually at one time marsh grass from the bay was harvested as 'salt hay'. Not sure if there is a particular type of marsh grass they used, but I've seen articles and museum exhibits about it before. Don't think they do it anymore. Here's an article which mentions it -

I imagine what was floating around this week was just a result of the high tides flooding over the islands.

At least we know there are no green “marshems” cutting the mash.

Brad, as I was reading this yesterday I knew there was some history of cutting the marsh grass so had to look it up.

Rob, almost time for vacation again! Going to Cabo, staying at a hotel on the beach, planning to do some fishing, snorkeling, hanging out with friends who are going. Should be a nice trip.
