I went to the store to get some cleaner/wax for the boat. What's the difference between Mequirer's cleaner wax for boats vs cars, other than about $11 / bottle. Of course, the boat wax is the one that's $11 higher.

When I looked on the back of the bottles.........I found the MAJOR difference was......eleven dollars......HINT.

I found out the hard way once- tried finishing an older Bayliner with Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (auto) after running out of the boat version-
it took MAJOR EFFORT to remove the wax. Something that you'd think shouldn't happen, but it was brutal to remove.
A little gelcoat porosity could have been at play here, but it wasn't hard to remove the marine cleaner wax. Lesson learned.

I use the automotive version & have no problems removing. I actually apply to entire side of 37' boat with a palm orbital buffer. I then remove with fresh pad; no problem !

I dont think its the wax, I think its the boat. Bayliners are a bi-ch to shine especially the older ones..

BoatCrazy; good point! Could really be the difference. My hull is in excellent condition & as a result takes the automotive cleaner/wax w/o a problem.

The Meguiar's cleaner wax works the same as the marine version. It doesn't last long so I always follow with a coat of Meguir's pure wax (Carnuba Wax is same thing) and it's good for the season a hull sides. Topsides another story.

After the cleaner wax, I went over the boat again with Fleetwax.
