Does this sound right? I want to first apply Collinite cleaner applied with 5" buffer in 4' x 4' sections and remove while wet with an 7" buffer wheel at approx. 1000rpm. next use the 3M Finnest it and apply with 5" buffer in 4' sections and remove it while wet with 7" buffer at 2000rpm. Next I want to apply collinte #870 and again apply with 5" buffer and before it is dry buff at 2000rpm with 7" buffer. Am I on the right track? I already have all this stuff. thanks Bill
 
Its been a while since I have used it b ut I think its like a palm sander. Orbital anything I have not had any sucess.
 
Mike, Its an 5" orbit 11,000 opm sander. I guess I also will need to get the pads right. White wool. gold wool etc. when to use.What do you think?
 
Mike, I went back and read your steps of proper finish. Seems I can use my buffer I recently purchased from Harbor Freight for 29.00. Seems I can use the 7" Harbor Freight buffer to compound, polish and wax. I just need to use different pads. White wool for mild liquid compound.Should I use the Collinite cleaner first or the 3M finnese-it compound.I will use the terry cloth to take the wax off. Should I use the yellow to apply the wax? I do have one question regarding the 9"-11" spacing of vertical stripes, but you don't say how wide the vertical stripes should be. Do I go back and pick up the 11" spaces I skipped after I finish all the vertical stripes. If not why would I want to miss a space 11" wide?

If not why would I want to miss a space 11" wide?When you start buffing, the material spreads and will fill "the spacing". as for how wide the product should be, just as wide as it comes out of the bottle... without you forcing a huge amount out

Mike, I am doing so many different projects on my boat, I cannot keep up with my equiptment for the waxing and cleaning. I am about a week or two from getting the cleaning and waxing job started. So, I discovered today I do have an 6" Wren orbit waxmaster to apply the wax and I have an 12" orbit buffer----but I would never use that 12" BUFFER AGAIN. So, are you saying forget the Collinite cleaner and use the 3M finness it and go to the Collinite #870 liquid wax. Of course thats after I remove the 3M product with the 1500 to 2000 rpm 7" buffer. If I get by or close to your place, whether my boat needs it or not you will do my boat. And I may make a trip to the gulf this fall----not sure yet.You said the width of applying the wax should be same same width coming out of bottle. That usually only about an 1/8" to 1/4" wide. I must be dumb ---I don't understand.

You mentioned using 100% terry towels made in the USA. You'll have a hard time finding one. About 98% of all terry towels are made in either India, Pakistan, Bangledesh or China.

Use micro fiber instead as it removes residue much better, especially wax as it won't streak or smear like terry towels do.

Also you mentioned 100% White wool pads. There are 2 types of white wool pads, single ply and double ply (yarn). Double ply is more aggressive than single ply.

Just thought I'd like to clarify that.
