We live on a canal about 3 houses from the open bay. Depending on the wind, the boat can really pound the poles. I have big whips, but they do not do the job in rough weather. I have seen "mooring arms" for sale that hold the boat a constant foot off the dock. They are just not in the budget. I have also seen "homemade arms" that appear to be 4"galvanized pipe mounted on some sort of hinge. The pipe sticks out into the canal about a foot behind the boat and another about a foot in front. The lines go from the pipe to the boat and hold the boat off. I have a general idea of how to make it. I was just wondering if anyone has done this or seen it. Looking for any advice.

Buy the right size wips. My 25,000 lb, Trawler is held off my dock by wips. No problems. I've seen "arms" use on lake applications wjere tide and wakes are not big problems. Without the flex of wips your sure to do more damage by trying to restrict the boats ability to react to tides, wind, wakes, etc.

Pix would help. There are a lot of ways to skin a cat.
