Not sold anymore. Their part number 010-10776-00

If you have one I would like purchase it or even rent it.
Thanks

I have an older Garmn GPS498. Garmin sent me a device with "flash" software on it and charged me a deposit. Last chance to revive the thing and it in fact worked. Returned the gizmo and deposit refunded. I don't know what the part number they sent me was, but if you haven't called GARMIN, suggest you do.

Bill
I think i have one the problem i cant look for it till after labor day
if i find it, its yours!

jd, already tried them, no help there, but I did get the part # from them.

Andy, that would be great! If you also have the mapsource CD that would be even better. Of course I will buy it and pay shipping if you can locate it. No hurry, just when ever you can find time to look.

This might save me days of manually entering waypoints on a new unit.

Dave, Garmin said it will not work with the old data card. I don't know.

The data cards for older models (pre-2007ish) were a proprietary format - both physical and software. They were used in the GPSMAP 3000 series and earlier models, and only way to read it on a PC was their proprietary card reader. From the 4000 series and later they wisely moved to SD cards for maps and firmware updates, which can be used in a standard SD card slot and Homeport.

I used to have one of these; I looked around but don't have it any longer.

A long-shot idea: depending on the unit you may be able to connect the old and new ones via Garmin network or NMEA 0183. I looked at the manual for the 3006c I had; on that model there was a way to use NMEA connections and Comms settings to transfer lots of data types including waypoints, tracks, and routes.

Brad, the NMEA solution would work if I had the older unit in working order. <opps>

Bill, there's a fella here who does this type service. I had him pull all the waypoints from the card in my old Garmin GPS230 unit. He loaded it to a USB drive so I can load it to a new unit when mine dies. If you can't locate a reader I'll get you the guys contact info.

Guys, I can copy any flash card, or hard drive, so if you all want to chip in for a card, can make copies. No charge other than the media card and shipping.

Bill
No joy on finding the card reader, but still have a few more piles of cables

Dang Andy, how could you lose it since you keep these things so well organized? <GRIN>

I have a C-Map NT Link. It's a 2-slot reader. Connects to a USB port.

It says the model number is R1000XX2

Not sure how to post a photo.

Thanks, Garmin gave me the part number but it could be wrong. I'll check your links. In the mean time I've started manually entering the waypoints/description. Thanks

You’re welcome to mine, if you want it. It came from Garmin, so I presume it is what you’re looking for.

Thanks Bill, I would like it very much. Is there a chance you have the software disc as well? I'll email you my address and will send you whatever you spend shipping it to me. Just let me know...
