New to Anchorage

I just rented a slip on D dock at the Anchorage. Any words of wisdom or things I should know about the Anchorage?

I was told not to screw my dock box in because it is a concrete dock. What do you guys do to secure them.

BTW, I have been reading the posts here for a few weeks and in addition to the great content, it's very entertaining! :)
 
Advice… you should have joined the Long Island Yacht Club…

Just kidding… Welcome to the forum and the guys at the Anchorage are good people.

They just have a very strange way about them…

Don is an Anchorage want to be, he spends more time in the Anchorage, than he does at his home on the water.

If you haven't already guessed I am at D55, where are you?

No need to secure your dock box, know one does and they are just fine. If you do not have a lot of stuff in it, you may want to put a cinder block in it to weigh it down. The tide never comes over the dock in the summer so no worry there. Some people prop it up on cinder blocks, I don’t and 5 years later all is ok.

Lot’s of nice people at the Anchorage, stop over and introduce yourself.

Are you familiar with the waters in Lindenhurst, I hear there is someone that you could…. Ok forget about that thought.

Welcome to BoaterEd and to the AYC.
As moderator of this great forum, let me give you some rules:

- No whining
- Only discuss boats or boat related activities. If its not boating related, make it so. Like, "Last night I went out and I met this hot girl and she had a anchor on her butt". See...very simple!
- I am on A dock. A dock is cool. D dock is for snobs.
- What do you need to know. Well, your okay where you are, but over near the school some boats have had some thefts. We respect each other and watch each other's boats. For example, one day in a big storm, I was checking Walter's boat and his neighbors boat was hung up on a rope, I had to cut the rope to save his boat.
- If you like AYC and you plan to stay, you should look into buying. Hard to buy on D Dock.
- If you need mechanics, MRD guys are real nice.
- Boat cleaning - try Victor.
- We get a .10 discount per gallon at the gas dock. Need sticker from office, plus a shell card.
- Got beers, let us know!

I just got a delivery of 140 gallons today from Direct Marine Fuel............

Thanks for the welcome. Walter I will definately stop by to say hello(with beer). I am in D18, which if I remember right, means I have to drive past you to get to my slip so I will be happy to check up on things whenever I pass by.

I was at Jones Inlet Marina in Freeport last year so I don't really know the waters in Lindenhurst yet. I spent most of last summer at Zachs Bay and only made it out to Fire Island once. Jones Inlet Marina was down a long no wake channel next to a marsh so I got killed by green flies and yelled at by my wife alot. That's why Anchorage, being right near the bay looked good and here I am.

Dave, as far as the rules, is it fair to say I like women with large fenders? Happy to hear everyone watches out for each other. I hope to be in the water and over there in a couple of weeks.

Rob, I had Waves and Wheels deatil my 28 last year before I put it up for sale and they did a fantastic job.

Waters are pretty straight forward and marked well, you should not have a problem. "Dave, as far as the rules, is it fair to say I like women with large fenders?" I think with that remark, you will fit in very well here, point taken and did it with a boater theme...very good.

I think you will like being at the Anchorage, no stuffy shirts, just regular people looking for fun...

The answer is yes! As long as she is not too beamy amidships. :)

I think it was Robert Schimmel who said, "I saw a woman the other day who's 'fenders' were sooo out of proportion with her body it was just...BEAUTIFUL!"
 
Well I am in! Very windy today. Had a tough time getting into my slip. Had to make 3 attempts.
Had a leak in water line behind cockpit fridge. Had to take it out. It was just a loose fitting.
Bimini ripped, AMC put a patch in and all new zippers. Other than that, ran good!
