Can anyone share experiences they have had with the new Nobeltec TimeZero Odyssey program? I have the old Nobeltec program on my laptop which seems to be on its last legs so thought I might consider an upgrade.

Thanks.

We use it on the boat I'm on now. Same as MaxSea which I have on my personal laptop. Works great and fairly easy to learn. Different layout from the old Nobeltec though.

Also take a look at PolarNavy's Polarview. http://www.polarnavy.com/

Can't comment on the Nobeltec implementation, but we have the Furuno NAVNet TimeZero version, and I also run the MaxSea counterpart on home deskptop and boat laptop. Good software, and customer support (mostly for the MaxSea versions, but also for the Furuno) has been good, too.

Bill nailed it... I don't know what nobeltech charges but for $50 it s very hard to beat PolarNavy!

It has built in Active Captain support and a very easy to use interface

I know this is an old thread, but I just upgraded to this so as to pick up new charts and support. I have to admit it was a mistake.

I have used VNS for many years. Odyssey has less function. For example, I have spent a 1/2 hour trying to join two routes and have yet to find the means. You can split and extend them,, but joining is not an option.
Route lists are displayed right justified.
Modes have been split between home planning and navigate. Home planning is nice because it displays active captain data. But you cannot activate a route! So, to activate a route, you leave home planning, and guess what? If you need to get a marina phone number you will be looking at your Garmin Smart Phone APP unless you want to shut down Odyssey and start it up in Home planning mode. You will know where you are then, and your predictor line will work, but, this is another head ache.

Worst, looking at bridges, the bridges are represented as mere outlines not bars crossing the water. So unless you are paying attention closely, you could wind up at a bridge you are not ready for! AND, you used to be able to fly your mouse over the bridge and the clearance was displayed. Now, you have to look for some clearance in shaded numbers that do not jump out from the back ground.
I have to rate this code poorly. It has less usefulness than the code it replaces. Some will say it has more function, but having experienced it a bit I wish I had stayed away from it.
