Not so Lucky

Here is something ironic and with a twist of fate. Beverly Eckert, one of the women passengers, was killed on that flight while flying to her home town to mark the bithday of her husband who perished in the 911 twin towers attack.

Very sad story. I recall well the crash of Flight 90, which took off from the airport in Washington DC and came right over one of the bridges, hit a few cars on the bridge and would up in the Potomac. In this case it was also an issue of icing, the plane had to wait too long after de-icing because the weather was so bad. Only a few survivors because of the frigid conditions and difficulty in getting rescue crews to the site. I rememeber it well because I was stuck in traffic on the West Side Highway in Manhattan in the same storm. It was snowing, sleeting, freezing rain, and I passed 43 abandoned cars before I got to the GW bridge. Still had to drive up the Henry Hudson Parkway and Saw Mill Parkway to get back home (all up hill!). All I heard on the radio all night was the reports in Flight 90. Took 4 hours to get home in my '80 Honda Civic, fortunatly I had 4 snow tires on it. I will not get on a plane in bad weather conditions.
