Very interested in Regal as our next boat, and want to be in the 30' range. I'm starting to like the looks of the Windows Express, and wife really likes it, but we have some concerns about the cockpit layout. We have not been on one YET, but it appears in photos that they have actually sacrificed cockpit seating compared to the older style 3060. Does anyone here own the 3060 Windows, or spent time on one? What are your thoughts? They say it really opens up the cabin with all the light from the windows which would be nice in an express boat (no more cave), but don't know if it's worth giving up cockpit "usability". Any other input on either model is greatly appreciated.

Jeff - the Regal 3060 came in "runner up" for us when we were boat shopping. We actually loved the window express model, and what the windows did for the cabin. However, we just couldn't live with the cockpit layout, the lower area at the stern seemed too separated from the "main" seating area, and we didn't like the circle layout, it just seemed a bit tight and prescriptive to us. So I understand your concern with that layout.

Also, in the cabin, even though the aft berth is a nice size, we found the access to it a bit too cramped. That was a problem mainly because of the lack of fixed forward berth. I would consider the 3360, given the nice fixed forward berth.

This is all just my .02... We still loved the boat and almost bought one! The cabin with those windows is great, even if it is a bit small IMO. The details and fit and finish are awesome too.

Jeff-I have the older layout. Actually a nine year old model 292. The basic layout didn't change till the window express came out. I to like the looks of the boat but do not like the cockpit layout. The old 292/3060 is a great roomy layout. The cabin on the new one is light and airy but it is way to small to get into that back cabin. If they had made the back cabin like the 2460 or 2860, I might have up-graded to a new boat. But until a better layout comes out, I will stick with my nine year old 292. It works great for us. I also trailer my boat so up-grading to a 3360 is out of the question. I would love to though. Good luck in your decision.

We considered this boat quite a bit - but we started to realize that the cockpit didn't have much more room than our old 26' cruiser. Plus my wife realized in the galley area there was no where to put full size plates. We spend every weekend on the boat.

JeffR,

I work in Regal's Marketing Department and wanted to address your concern with the cockpit seating in the 3060. In comparison to the 292, the seating space is smaller by 2 persons; we sacrificed the seating space to create a more social arrangement while cruising by moving the passengers near the helm. Another benefit is the seating is elevated so everyone enjoys a view. What we have found is the typical day cruise for our owners includes a party of 7 or 8. The 3060 more than comfortably accommodates a crew of this size in the cockpit.

As for the Cabin, late into the 2007 model year, we introduced our FlexPlan alternative which gives you the choice to choose a layout that best suites you boating style. The first layout comes with a V-berth seating arrangement and best suites a family who only needs a sleeping capacity of 4 persons.
The seating is large and open and can comfortably accommodate 6 or more persons. The FlexPlan layout is for a family that needs to sleep 6. A fixed forward berth comes standard with this layout as well as a side dinette. As to which is better, that comes down to your taste, style and needs, but the key is you have a choice. To see images of both cabin layouts I invite you to our 2008 Model already updated on our website at (http://www.regalboats.com/2008/SportCruisers/WindowExpress/3060/Gallery).
I'm very interested in your thoughts, so please let me know what you think.

Ernesto, Patrick, Skolbe - Thanks for the replies. I don't know if it's good or bad, but all the criticisms (hate to even have to say that) that you've mentioned are exactly what's going through my mind and we haven't even been on one yet. I really want to like this boat, but I don't think it's going to fly.

Chris - I appreciate your response, I think that's great. However, call me a skeptic, but you're a marketing person (just having some fun!). I can't help but question, though, whether Regal is now offering another layout honestly because it provides a choice as you say, or simply because the current layout was not well received. You've obviously read the replies above, and there's a common theme regarding the layout. I hope you don't think I'm being a smarta$$, that's not my intent.

I encourage you to visit your local Regal dealer an see the cockpit in person. Visualize how you intend on using the cruiser, how many people you will have, what gear you will bring and where it will be stowed. I believe this is the best way to find the perfect boat.

As for being biased, I'm enthusiastic for our product, our company, our dealer network and our owners. I invite you to visit our facilities here in Orlando and see what truly encompasses each Regal we built. I'm sure you won't leave disappointed.

OMG! A real Regal representative. Welcome Chris--I REALLY mean welcome!!! Please stick around and jump in any place you can help, assist, explain, or generally be of comfort to us lowly, but humble, Regal owners.

Regal owners: this is a milestone! Lets welcome Chris without "busting his chops" (too much). :)

Welcome Chris, but I do have some issues with my boat, namely a broken window that is still not fixed after 2 months, but I will leave you alone on that one as it is not your responsibility.

Chris, thanks for the additional response...you know I was just busting your chops, right? We are actually driving 45 miles or so to our closest Regal dealer this morning, on a beautiful summer day, when we could actually be out boating, just to do exactly what you're saying. We're going to go hang on on a boat in a parking lot!! I'll let you know our impressions.

Hi Chris,
Welcome to our ne whome here.

I am truly impressed. I'm sold on more and more Regal by your move here. Awesome Boats, and actually having a rep on an owner's forum takes balls and is a very good move. So wise. Even if you are just lurking most of the time. You can't go wrong Dude.

Now what if Regal actually create a customer service link we can send our questions and comments to?

They have one on the Regal website. I don't have it at the top of my head but I've used it several times in the past and response time was good.

JeffR, we have one of the ‘new’ 3060 window express cruisers. My wife and I chose it over the Doral Intrigue and the Sealine SC29. We previously owned a Regal 2465 and were happy with the quality; the Doral and Sealine are also of good quality.

The big selling point for us was the below cabin, as it is roomy and full of natural light, we liked the 3060’s galley better as it felt more upmarket, with the stainless steel sink dropped into Corian worktop rather than the moulded surface of the Doral.

The Sealine had a similar finish and a proper gas cooker and oven, which would have been a big plus for us; however, the Sealine lost out on performance and berth access. The dealer admitted that it was really a very expensive day boat!

The one thing that we do not like about the 3060 is the bin; it takes up a lot of cupboard space in the galley. We have removed it and utilize the cupboard to store full size plates and dishes. There is excellent storage under the steps; we store the pots, pans, toaster & blender.

The head has a lot of space and a proper shower.

As there is generally only the two of us, the V berth setup suits us. The midships berth is roomy but access can be a struggle if you are on the inside and need to get out, you end up climbing over the other person. There is great storage at the end of the berth.

Up top the split seating suits us as we would store stuff in the lower area and it does not interfere with the seating. It also gives you an area to cook, keep the dog when he’s wet etc. the seating option which is available on the 3360 looks good.

An other thing, which we like, is the relatively flat bow very easy to work on especially when it’s wet.

Over all we are happy with the boat, the one thing we would not get as an option the next time is the alcohol/electric stove, useless re the alcohol part.

I have added some other photos of how good the 3060 looks, a few people including a guy who owns a Fairline 38, thought the 3060 was the nicest boat he had seen. Mind you, there is only one in Ireland!

i am glad to see that regal has come out with an alternative layout for the 3060. Back when we first were shopping for an express cruiser when this boating madness first began, we looked hard at the 3060 window express. I agree with the previous comments about the standard layout- felt very cramped. We ultimately decided to go with another brand and a larger boat but one thing is for sure...the window express style really does open up the cabin a ton. Only drawback was the lack of bow space for lounging, etc.

James, thanks for the info, and great pictures. I'm sure we just have different terminology here than in Ireland, but can I ask what you are referring to when you say you don't like the "bin"? I'm not sure what you mean. I agree Woodsong, but really you can still lounge on the bow. They have a bow cushion, and then they also have a very thick cushion that covers the window so you can lean back on it.

Welcome Chris! Great to see Regal Marketing on the site.

We considered the 3060 as an upgrade to our 2565 this year, but ultimately found the layout of the 3360 more compelling. The admirals only complaint about the 2565 was getting into and out of the aft breth, so the forward berth on the 3360 made perfect sense to us. We also have the "Extended Cockpit" seating on the 3360 and find it an excellent alternative for our size of cruiser. Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

Walter

Hi Chris, welcome to the site. Jeff R. we had one of the very first windows express 3060's off the line. We basically decided on it at the Annapolis boat show after seeing a CD and being reassured by Duffy and Woody Jackson that they could make the $$$ work out. We couldn't even order the boat until December when they finally figured out the options and pricing but they were men of their word. There is a ton of hidden storage in the 3060. We owned the boat and used it every weekend until we traded it for our 3560. It is a great boat and served our needs since it was mainly Deb and I for an overnight. If out for a day trip with friends, it has plenty of room for at least 8 to 10 people. I think Bill Peach still has pictures of some of the changes and storage shelves we installed on his computer. We divided up some of the cabinets added a cover over the engine hatch and bilge switches (Regal has since changed the location of these). Our move to the 3560 was prompted by a similar problem as Charlie T in that at some point in time, I didn't want to climb into the aft cabin. If the 3360 had been available that year, we may have gone with it.

Jeff::

We are the proud owners of one of the first 2008 3060 Widow Express boats with the "V" berth option. The boat has been on the water for about two months now. This boat has what Regal owners have asked for in the 3060 for years. Have we had a few problems, yes. Are they being addressed yes. This is one of, if not the best livable boats in its size out there. My wife, small dog and I spend three to four over nighters a week on the boat. We are either at the marina, or out on the hook with friends. No, I don't work for Regal, but did own a 2565.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies...seems to be a pretty common theme(s) with cockpit seating and aft berth access.

Regal3060, can you clarify what you mean when you say it finally has what owners have been asking for? Are you referring to the fixed berth? Didn't the old style 3060 have the fixed berth?

Thanks.
