Afternoon all,
Has anyone ever had, or know anyone who has ever had dealings with Outlaw Boat Works in Elizabeth City, NC? Savasa is due for a paint job and this firm has quoted on the job.
Thanks, Peter

I live in Elizabeth City. Can you pass me some particulars about this company? I dont think you are going to get a boat in to his location if the google address is correct. That creek wont support a boat that big.

Hi Paul,
I was told the boat will be done up a creek in the water near the Coast Guard base. I know little about the company other than speaking with the owner. I asked at Pelican Marine for anyone who did boat painting in the area and Outlaw was suggested. I had asked for quotes from Elizabeth City Marina but they never showed up and there was some question as to whether their travel lift could haul me out. Outlaw, on the other hand came within 2 hours of my call and presented an estimate two days later.
Their intention is to roll and tip.
Thanks again Paul.
Peter.

That would be Newbegun Creek I suppose. For most of it I'm sure there's water enough. It isnt a marked creek.

I dont know of a haulout facility on that creek, but I can certainly run by there and check.

Elizabeth City marina is a farce. I think they all belong in an institution. How they stay in business is somethng everyone has pondered for years.

Hi Paul,
She will be hauled at Blue Water Marine in Wanchese for bottom paint(done by Outlaw-says it will take about 3 days)and survey (my own surveyor) and then brought "up the creek" so to speak for in-water paint job. I have no editorial comments about EC Marina at this time and have asked myself questions about the facility as well.
Thanks for the offer of a look-see but that's unnecessary at this time. Just trying to find "scuttlebutt" about the company (Outlaw) in general.
I get a good "gut" feeling about my dealings with LE and Susan thus far but being 1200 miles north of EC, it's difficult to do much research and comparative shopping and as you're surely aware, an over-the-phone estimate for a job of this scope is nigh-on impossible for ANY company.
I really appreciate your assistance in this endeavour Paul-thanks.
Peter

Peter I'm not sure where you are located your profile says NJ I would recommend Total Marine, they sprayed and painted and redid the no skid on my topsides using Gelcoat about 3 years ago. They brought a guy down from their Conneticut yard. They have a location in Conneticut as well.
I'm also told there is a guy who used to work for Viking Yachts that has his own company that paints boats like yours. I can look into that for you as well. However if your boat is in NC I can't help I have no real contacts there other than Paul (Shadowcruiser) and his father in law Gene both great guy's.
Bill

Hello Billy III,
Nope, not in NJ. You had me worried for a while there so I checked my profile. Savasa is registered in NU (Nunavit territory-Canada. Home Port Iqaluit-former Frobisher Bay-about 150 miles south of the ARCTIC CIRCLE).
She is currently berthed in Camden NC (about 5 miles from Elizabeth City NC), hence my questions about a "local" business there. Physically the Admiral and I are located in Ontario, Canada about 1200 miles north of Savasa and THAT'S another problem with lining up a paint job-distance shopping.
Thanks so much for your offer of assistance.
Peter.

I take you have her berthed at Lambs. They have had a dredge inthere all week. If there is anything I can do to help you out with this, dont hesitate to ask.

Hi Paul,
You're correct. Lamb's it is. We hope to be down for New years. I'd enjoy meeting up so I could put a face to the name. How can we get in touch? Seems not being a member means I can't PM or e-mail. Any way you could get your phone # to me?
Peter.

Good afternoon,
Laissez-Faire, we're still in the planning stages so not much happening thus far. I'll keep you all posted as "zero hour" approaches. Have to have a survey (dad-gummed insurance) done before the end of the month. Making double sure all my bulbs are still functioning-good excuse to re-grease sockets, check swithces etc.
Peter

Greetings,
Long story short. After initial contact with Outlaw Boat Works in Elizabeth City, NC they have stopped returning any of my calls. For what reason? I don't know. I tried to leave them some money (cheque), when we were down at New Year, to purchase materials for bottom painting and even THAT generated no return calls. I don't know whether or not I have offended them in some way, which was or ever will be my intention, or they are not interested in the work. I have made other arrangements to have a haul and bottom paint done at Atlantic Yacht Basin (AYB) in Chesapeake, VA. I guess I'll have to pose my "Where's a good place to have painting done" question at such time that we decide to proceed.
Peter
