I boat in Lake St Clair, Michigan. Bottom paint is flaking off and I know it needs to be redone. I spot painted bottom last year and of course most of paint came off. I plan to do the same this year and then have the bottom redone in fall or next spring. My question, what might happen if I don't do anything this year and just address it all this fall or next spring?

Thanks

first off what kind of paint do you have now? is it multi season? how much has flaked off? Is it down to the gel coat? Keep it mind the point of the bottom paint is to fend off growth and barnacles. If there in no bottom paint if the flaked off areas you may end up with a lot of growth which can slow you down and be a major PIA in the fall to scrape off. I would a least try to cover the areas in question then deal with it when you ready. Soda blasting the bottom then barrier coat then paint is a great way to go just pricey. Best of luck.

Ken, you will be ok. In the lakes all we really get is slime anyway. In the last club I belonged (smaller boats) most guys didn't even have bottom paint and a good cleaning with a power washer cleaned them right up. If you use your boat you won’t even notice.

Good luck

I missed the first line I didn't realize you boat in fresh water. I wouldn't do anything until you feel like it you already have more the most.
