I went up to the marina today to check on the boat (Butch - I didn't see Caryl!). Felt great to be back on it, everything looks fine.

Took my front eisenglass to be replaced and ordered covers for them.

Can't wait to take the cover off!

She had to chip all the ice in the driveway first Mike!

I was up today doing some work. It was a bit chilly in the cabin but ok once I started to some chores.

Once Super Bowl is over......next stop, BOATING!!!!!!

Jonathan

I was at the boat last weekend doing a couple things. By the end of the month I'll start on a couple projects.

We went to Gander Mountain today to look at fishing supplies. Does that count???

I guess it was boat project day. I had my windlass apart to see why it would not release. Now the big decision, send for rebuild or new.

Let's see, my boat is frozen and covered with snow. She is up on blocks, and we won't see her until the shrinkwrap comes off in April.

We did however manage to go to Key West and toast the old gal with a few Mojitos. El Maison de Pepe makes the best ones. Also, shared a good cigar with mayor Morgan McPherson. Hurry up Spring!

I thought about going to the boat yesterday. I guess that doesn't count?

So far I've been pretty good tearing things apart. Time to start reassembling soon.

It's easy for me to go to the boat considering she's sitting on a trailer thirty feet from my back door.

I'm with Pete though. Time to start going through tackle boxes to see what to put on the list. I hope to stop at Gander on our way back from Scranton in a few weeks. Never been there!

We did take a ride down to the marina the other day though an it looks like we have more / new docks being built which is always a good thing. We've got nice docks, but more of 'em is never a bad thing!

Butch why not rebuild? If the basics are in good shape I'd go for a rebuild depending on the price differential.
I kicked in the charger this weekend to give the batteries a shot. It's supposed to be cold next week.

Ken, they're just switching over to summer stuff there now. Because of that, it will be better to wait a few weeks to visit Gander Mtn...

The top-most item on my spring commissioning list is to sell the Sun Runner.

After that, the Silverton needs a good detail cleaning.

Mike, I'm guessing are you're not using the same guy that did your vinyl.

Actually, I am, Chris, he's fine with canvas work.

Dan, It looks like a new one...secondary gear was seized, managed to get it working but not happy with it...list of 520.00 just for the gear. Should do all bearings due to water damage, thats almost 300.00 if not more. Clutch bearing alone was almost 100.00..Then the unit is no longer being made so parts are going to run out soon if not already. Then Im taking a chance on motor, no problem yet but my luck it would go right after the rebuild. Thats 820.00 list...

They are telling me the pro fish 1000 is ok for my boat...they go for around 800.00.. or the H2 series which go for apro 2200.00...

So its time to decide which way to go with new...I do have mine working again (horizon express) but like I said roller bearings are shot..was able to put 2 back together but 1 other is really bad...really needs all new...

If only the colts would have missed 1 more field goal it would have been an easy one to decide.

Patino.

Butch, don't cheese out on the windlass, paying a bit more for a more powerful one will keep Caryl's back from getting injured.

Yeah Butch, you don't want that. A back brace might scratch the gel-coat as Caryl's waxing. Do the right thing for the sake of your number one girl...it'll be difficult to repair her scratches.

Mike,
trust me, I dont want to hurt Caryls back...I have a large list for her this year. Just bought her that new sewing machine that will do canvas with ease...

It was Lewmar who told me the Pro series was ok for my boat, I figured I would go with the pro fish since its free fall.. 1000 lbs lift..

They say your ground tackle should be 1/3 the total which it is under quite a bit..Figured it to be aprox 200 lbs..If I was all chain I would have to go with the bigger one...

The H2 is 1400 lbs and the gypsy drumb which Id never use...

But then too, I have always said, the bigger the better...

Butch if it was just the bearings maybe you could make out the part numbers and buy another set. I know there must be places you can go for bearings still. When I was a kid I buried a model airplane leading edge deep in the grass and whacked the motor. Since it was a high strung job and all it needed was bearings I went to a bearing place in queens and they had a replacement in stock. Cheap compared to replacement.
If you could get the bearings out, you could probably find a place that sources them. Did you happen to notice numbers on the races? If you took those and xref'd 'em to another source you might be good to go and pretty cheap also. That'd leave money for lotto.

I actually have a place that could match the bearings for me, all I need is give him the dimensions and type of bearing. The secondary gear isn't in the best of shape, I did get it freed up but don't think it will last long. This is the gear that disengages to allow the winch to free wheel..

I would hate to go thru all the trouble to rebuild only to end up with the motor going next. Caryl just cant keep pulling the anchor when the winlass goes out...
