Does anyone use the reletively low power (1500 psi) electric pressure washers to clean their boats. I was thinking this would be handy for weekly maintenance as long as you don't hold the tip 2" from the sirface and carve the gelcoat.

I do, once or twice a season. It works great on non-skid. Careful of those decals.

Once or twice a year---especially on the waterline and transom. But I think using one every week or so would be too much. You want to get rid of the dirt, not the wax!

Me too. The "cheapies" are fine for once in awhile. If you really have uses for it, get a better one.

I went out and bought a gas powered 2400 PSI from BJ's $189. Last night I used (Marykate's - on/off) to clean the bottom (previous owner left all the bottom growth on) and the power washer definitely made it a much easier job. I used a wide spray pattern and never got too close to the boat.

I use 2600 PSI, 5 HP Honda pressure washer quarterly. Not too close and probably 8-10 inches away. Just make sure you do not pressure wash your arm. Made a big cut when the nozzle swung to my arm.

I bought the biggest 120 electric I could find, 1800 psi full flow and 2200 resricted nozzle. The 1800 works great the 2200 with etch the teak, so careful.
