Mike in step #4 waxing, you use the term baking in.Are you referring to the wax drying out&if so could this also be created by using an electric palm wax applicator with high RPM.If your answer is yes, how is the best way to remove the baking in of the wax without totally stripping the waxed surface&what kind of electric applicator would you use. I've been using Meguire's #26 yellow wax&am dealing with a large area to wax.

Reply:
refering to wax baking in, meaning just that. it bakes onto the surface. if it does come off, you usually get it in big flakes.
if yours is doing that, and your using an orbital, you may be leaving on too long, doing too big of an area, or the wax may not be the right kind for your boat. what year make boat do you have

Kole:
Mike the boat is an ocean yacht 1990.The boat is in heated storage for the winter.I wax it in the shed. I'm concerned whether the electric applicator is baking the wax or is it me misusing the machine. As I mentioned before the palm applicator runs at a fairly high RPM.

Reply:
your Gelcoat is very porosity prone. thats the problem. switch to Meguires #56 Wax for better results

Kole, i "moved" your questions into its own thread, so sorry in advance if it caused you confusion, i think the "buffing" thread is better suited w/o a ton of questions in it that can get lost.
Thank you

Mike, why are you doing small sections 4' x 4'? Is that to keep the wax from drying out too much? I thought wax was suppose to dry to a haze. What is consider dry to take the wax off?

with the 56, you can remove it wet, preferably. once a gelcoat gets to a certain point, it'll absorb whatever you put on it real quick. i can do the hull side of 60 and not remove the wax for 2 hrs and be fine, but on some, youd be hard pressed to do more then 2'

I took your advice & used a different wax. Rather than using #56, I used Maguiars Premium. It made all the differance in the world by replenishing much needed oil to the pouros & dryed out gel coat.By being a penny pincher & using a car wax doesn't do it.The car wax seemed to dry out before I could rub it out.
Thanks for the advice.
