I have a long straight zipper which needs to be replaced on my boat canvas. Teeth have broken off so the only fix is to replace both sides.

Are you now doing this kind of work on the side? If so, I'd like to talk to you on the phone about my repair requirement.

Thanks for thinking of me. I am in the process of getting a business license and locating my suppliers. Due to the size of the job I recommend you locate someone close by, or take both pieces to a capable person who should be able to knock it out in about 60 minutes so long as they have the zipper in stock. Thinking of the economics I would likely only perform small repairs in my shop (garage) or if I brought my machine to my boat. The time to drive back-n-forth plus gas and wear-n-tear on the vehicle would leave me in the hole. A $75 dollar job would leave me about $-25 in the hole.

Ok, thought I'd give you a shot. The ones I know of pretty expensive. We used to have a really good one on Bethel Island, but he went out of business. I miss him.
 
I've had good luck with "Land or Sea Design and Sewing" at the Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael, but that's quite a drive for you, Liz. They were quite willing to repair some old canvas pieces that other shops only wanted to totally replace at high dollar. They did a good repair a year and a half or so ago, and it's still functioning!

Thanks, BTG. I think that I'll save the gas and time and use the guy in Antioch. He'll do repairs as well as full canvas, etc. And it will be easy to take it to him and pick it up. He's willing to come to my boat, but that isn't necessary for a simple zipper replacement and I'm pretty sure I can remove and reinstall both pieces by myself.
