I want to reduce the overall height of my boat when trailering it. Right now it measure 14'2" which is a little above legal height. I am thinking of cutting the aluminum arch so that the overall height is reduced to 13feet for travel, and then I would reinstall the top portion when I get to my destination. I haven't found anyone locally so far who has done this, although some have heard of it being done. I would appreciate any input such as what is the best way to cut it etc. My main concern is that it looks ok when done and that it is strong enough to continue doing its job. TIA for any help you may have. Tom

Lots of different kinds os arches out there. Pictures of yours would help.

I don't think you would have to cut it! Did you contact chaparral and ask them?

When I was looking for my current Searay I looked at on that they had unbolted it from the gunnel's and boled a big hinge so that it could be layed down. The previous owner lived on the wrong side of a low bridge. If it is aluminum call a welder and ask.

Yup! There are a lot of hinged radar arches out there. The big problem is the style/design you have. Has to do with the way it lays over into your cockpit area. may have been easier to have the hinge designed in.

thanks for the replies. I did contact chaparral and they told me I'd have to replace the entire arch with the hinge option now available. I will try fabricators next and see if someone would like to tackle the job. At least I know it's being done. Thanks Tom
