Suggestions on how to refinish teak parquet flooring? Sanding and coating? Each section is about 6" X 6". Is the effort worth the work or am I better to remove and replace? Can I sand across grain? Or do I sand each piece with grain direction. Small orbital? What grit do you recommend? I would like to stay away from teak oil?

not hard to sand and recoat with teak finish

I redid the teak parquet flooring in my galley. Sanded it down lightly with 300 grit and several coats of poly. Looks great and is holding up well into its 3rd year. It looked like it had poly or a varnish finish prior to my refinishing it.

What he said.

Use a good one part poly. You can sand against the grain. Just use an orbital and stay away from heavy grit paper if you can. I put 6 coats down.

I thought teak was an oily wood that paint, poly whatever would not adhere to ? I used Sikkens Cetol Marine when I had teak on my last Sea Ray, no clue why it stuck and was durable. Of course this wasn't flooring.
