OK...Not to sound like a complete idiot...I need to know what I need to register a boat in NY. I just boat the boat at the end of the season and had it blocked in my driveway. What are the fees involved and what paperwork will I need? Do I need to have a name for the boat? It currently has a name but we are planning on changing it.
Just want to do this once and not have to make multiple trips to DMV.

How do they calculate the tax on the boat and what is the yearly registration fee? Boat is a 24' Chris Craft Cuddy.

its your'sales' tax rate times your net cost on your bill of sale
 
Mike you may also want to check the DMV wesite.

you'll need to go to the dmv with the title and bill of sale and pay sales tax on the purchase amt (or net amt if a trade was involved). i think sales tax is based on the county it's registered in, but i could be wrong. you'll also have to fill out a form or two. complete instructions, as well as downloadable forms are available on the dmv's website.
 
I just registered a 23' yesterday and I was shocked at the new fees. I had to pay the sales tax (.0865 x price of boat) plus a $45 "standard" registration fee, plus a new $10 "water tax" that I never heard of before.
 
Really appreciate the help guys!! Don't worry I'm sure I'll be back often to "pick your brains"!! My boat needs a little work but nothing major...basically elbow grease on my part. Bottom needs a good scraping and sanding, Sides need a good polishing.
I am looking for a good yet reasonable canvas person for some minor repairs for my mooring cover as well as my bimini top. Any help??

I've used AMC. Great work, reasonable prices and they came to Freeport. They did my bimini to match the side curtains and a privacy curtain for the outside of the pilothouse and side windows.

You can resize pictures easy on photobucket, just choose the web posting option and all pictures will fit better when posting.
 
AMC is good to know.

B & R in Freeport does nice work but really really expensive.
