Several years ago I was lured into using PENETROL as a quick and easy way to revitalize and add a shine to my dull and oxidised hull and top sides. As promised it looked pretty good for a couple of years. Then with UV and the general marine envoirment this clear coat finish started to flake and peel. I contacted the manufacturer asking if they knew of a way to remove/strip this finish off. I was told to use a paint remover that was safe for fiberglass. The company almost denied that this could happen and gave me the quick brush-off. I'm reluctant to use anything that may harm the gelcoat, the chalking, vinyl stripes or paintwork. Does anyone have an idea of what might be the best approach to removing this finish? I must add a note that I would not recommend PENETROL as a quick fix solution to dull or oxidized fiberglass.
