removing stains on AwlGrip

I had a water intrusion problem from upper deck leaking stanchions on a boat I bought. Water had gotten into the plywood core and was oozing brown liquid from a teak rubrail down the side of the hull. The hull sounded solid during the survey, so I figured if I could fix the joints, it would be OK without major destructive repair. I had the boat in inside heated storage drying out over last winter. I removed the stanchions, dried out the core I could see and overdrilled and filled the holes with epoxy before rebedding the stanchions. While I was doing that, the yard AwlGripped the hull. Even though I stopped future water entry, some residual liquid leaked out and stained the AwlGrip hull before it later stopped oozing altogether.

Is there anything I can use to remove these stain streaks from the AwlGrip paint without harming it? The proprietary AwlCare didn't touch it, nor did MEK on a rag and then flushed with water. Any suggestions?

Did the stain come from the crud running down the outside of the hull. Or did it bleed through and leach out through the paint. If it's the latter, the stain is all through the paint and not on the surface where it can be removed.
 
Do you know if On-Off hurts AwlGrip?

The stain is definately on top of the paint. Some of it came off, but a stain remains.

Why not call the factory and tell them what you have? I'd like to hear what they say.
 
On off will discolor awl grip if left on for more than a few seconds. I have awl grip oyster white and anywhere that any type of acid product has been on the paint, has left the paint both dull and much whiter than the rest.

I used to was houses for a living at one time and wood stain was quite common. I would remove it with diluted bleach. At first when the bleach goes on the stain darkens but then dissapears. If your stain is indeed from the teaks tannins then bleach should work.

Bazza- Thanks. I'll give bleach a try.

Sbw1- The boat is 17 years old, so the factory doesn't care too much. The AwlGrip was done last year and it's hard to blame them for my deck leaks. The Paint job looked pretty good first out of the shed.

I was referring to the paint manufacturer not the boat builder. If it's on the surface you will bet expert opinion about cleaning. Awlgrip is ruined by some cleaners. I was only suggesting you get some reliable opinion vs. speculation about what might work.
