Unless you want to be busted for open container. It would appear we have some genuine a$$holes in office up there.
Yet again, I am ever so happy to be OUT OF NYS!!

quote:

“No person shall have in his possession, within the city of Kingston, an open or unsealed bottle or container of an alcoholic beverage while such person is in any public place (with the intent to consume said alcoholic beverage in any public place or to have the same so consumed by another), including, but not limited to, any public highway, public street, public sidewalk, public alley, public parking lot or area, except for locations licensed for the sale of alcoholic beverages by the state of New York."

This all seems a bit out of control. If I read this and take it literally, you cannot sit on the aft deck of your boat at the city dock, or on a dock at a marina, and have a beer anymore. If you walk down the city dock with a beer, you can be busted. The only place other than your home you can consume is a bar or restaurant.

I don't think that is any different than any other container law in NYS.
It's not enforced as long as you are cool about it.

Under the laws of the state of New York, it is against the law to possess or consume an open bottle of alcohol in a public area. This means that you can’t just go walking around and swigging from a bottle unless you are in a private space such as your home or a business establishment with a license to serve alcohol. It’s the reason why someone carrying around a brown bag has become code for drinking, because in theory if the police can’t see the alcohol, they can’t prove it. Visual confirmation of an actual bottle, however, is obviously only one of many ways that an officer of the law can tell that you are drinking, so it’s never good to test the law in this way.

Perhaps, but, read on, "Gallo said he will instruct the police department not to issue permits" or that's the end of the Hooley on the Hudson.

Hmmmm.....

And this just before the St. Patrick's Day Parade?

And Haverstraw? Isn't there at least a bowling alley there? At least you have a long dock to walk it off :D

We used to swim at the RYB in Kingston. I'm not thinking I want to be turned into chum at Haverstraw

Did they recover from Irene/Sandy? I know we had a thread in the subject but don't think we concluded.

I didn't hear anything about it being that bad, I'd be surprised if they were not ready to go in the Spring. People forget how they have recovered quickly from Spring flooding in the past.
