Shutdown

Thanks everyone. Saved me a whole "boatload" of typing.

Marcel - you are delusional. And if you actually believe half of what you wrote more gullible than anyone I have ever met. Except for maybe TimR.

Edit: I forgot to address your most central comment. Yes I meant the wars congress started. You do understand hat only congress can declare war and authorize military spending for same, right?

Well, actually Congress did not fund those two wars. While Bush was lying to the Congress about Weapons of Mass Destruction, and that Saddam was involved in the 9/11 attack, he was also cutting taxes on the wealthy.

That is why we are in such terrible financial shape.

I never start political discussions with right-wingers, but when I see blatant errors of fact I enjoy correcting the errors.

Fact: when Clinton was sworn in the National Debt was $4.18 Trillion, the Dow was 3,241 and the S&P was 433.

Fact: when Bush was sworn in the ND was $5.72 Trillion, the Dow was 10,578 and the S&P 1,342.

Fact: when Obama was sworn in, the ND was $10.62 T, the Dow was 7949 and the S&P was 805.

And we had a GDP of Minus 8.9% in Dec. 2008, Bush's last month in office. That, and the fact that the Bush administration had the worst job creation record in all of US recorded history, is what Bush left Obama.

So today the ND is $16.7 Trillion, the Dow is 14,838 and the S&P is 1660. The annual deficit is down by by more than 50% over Bush's last year.

Obama doubled my wealth (actually more) in less than 5 years, bringing me back to where I was under Clinton, plus some more. And you think that Republicans are good for business?

Really?

Remember, you are getting your "facts" from the same media that told you that Romney was going to win the election and the polls were rigged. Did you actually believe that?

When Obama became president in January 2009, the total federal debt stood at $10.6 trillion. This week, it hit $16.7 trillion — an increase of 57 percent. In the same time frame under President George W. Bush, total federal debt rose 38 percent. Under President Clinton, it rose 32 percent.

How much more does gas cost? How about food? How about college? How about everything else that you buy?

This thread has long passed the time where it should be moved to NBR. Oh wait, most of the liberal Obama spokespeople here don't have anchors.

Nah. If we wanted that we'd be praying to Boehner to raise the debt limit.

You cannot show the quotes of President Bush's "lies" and where he ever said SODAMM was responsible for 9/11. Nope did not happen, except in the minds of the misinformed

In the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Bush administration repeatedly suggested (in the absence of credible evidence) close links between Iraq and al Qaeda. A poll taken less than six months after the invasion found that nearly 70% of Americans wrongly believed that Hussein was personally involved in the September 11 attacks.

I wonder where they got that idea?

I could go on and on, but go to Youtube.com and search the videos. If you dare.

The DOW is at 14,838? Look at the stocks that comprise the DJ Industrial average. Take out the winners that were put in and then put back the losers that were taken out in the last five years and tell me what the real Induatrial Average is?

Actually, today it is 15,126, up 323 points, on the news that the Republicans are going to fold. The REAL Republicans, on Wall Street, have spoken.
But you conveniently leave out the S&P 500, up to 1,692 today. Is that much better than the 805 that Bush left? Oh yeah, that is more than doubled. Thanks to Obama.

Really? I'm delusional? I never thought that Romney was going to win. You probably thought, along with the ditto chorus, that he would. And you call me delusional? Now that is funny, even though I think that name-calling and insults are childish. Don't you agree? But that seems to be what people resort to when they are losing the debate. Oh, well.

And thinking that a sitting President, that will never run for office again, would give up the legislation named after him, well, that might be called delusional.

I could go on and on, but my (and your) opinions don't really matter. We will see what transpires in the next week or so.

Even the Koch brothers , the owners of the Tea Party, have abandoned the Obamacare repeal ship.

quote:

In a move that highlights a growing rift in conservative ranks, Koch Industries -- the privately held energy conglomerate owned by billionaires Charles and David Koch -- today distanced the firm from allied political groups lobbying to keep the government shut down unless Obamacare is defunded.

A letter, signed by the company's chief lobbyist and sent to members of Congress, says that Koch Industries has taken no position on the shutdown dispute in Congress "nor have we lobbied on legislative provisions defunding Obamacare."

And they can't tell the truth, even in their press release. But at least they are smart enough to know when to fold 'em.

Now you all have a nice day, but you might think about climbing out of that bubble you are all living in, because the real world will welcome you, and the facts will amaze you.

Well, some people actually have a life other than forums, LOL.

So here is something to keep you entertained. Of course, it is from that left-wing rag called the Wall Street Journal, owned by that Socialist named Rupert Murdoch.

But I'm sure that most of you already knew this fact below. Still, it is worth repeating, that if the population of the USA grows by 22 million on your watch, and you create 3 million jobs on your watch, you are going to leave a pile of ?? for your successor.

(I hope some of you can recognize sarcasm about the WSJ). BTW, you can subscribe for only $400/year.

Just been notified by the American Legion that veterans benefits will not be paid effective November 1. How come the government never runs out of money for welfare

Guess what Marcel?

Bush is no longer president. You libs just can't stop attacking him. It's YOUR guy who is now in the WH and needs to take responsibility for the country and stop acting like a spoiled child, stomping his feet, calling names and blaming others.

At some point NBR will become an entitlement and those of us who bought anchors will loose our privilaged class status. You know " = " time for the poltical Progressives who won't pony up for access on Al Bore's internet.
Bill

My brother was alking to a retired government purchasing agent and was told that with the haste that thoe signs were posted around the country, the process must have started at least eight months ago and according to some of his friends still in purchasing, the orders for these signs came directly from the White House.

I would note the date on that article Marcel. It is like saying Augustus was the worst Caesar ever, having never experienced Nero.

You do your argument no good with such intellectual dishonesty.

MarcelB

That video you posted is classic Keith Olberman bullsh!t. Olberman implies that a video will prove his point, then plays a video, and hopes nobody paid attention to what was actually said. Well, I paid attention. NOWHERE in that video does GWB ever say that Saddam was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. I watched it three times now, and still don't see it.

In the video, GWB DID say, ....

<<..."Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of Al Qaeda. Secretly and without fingerprints, he can provide one of his weapons to terrorists, or help them develop their own. Before September 11, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained."...>> [Video ended]

Sure, GWB did say that Saddam aids terrorists and can give them weapons, etc. It did not say Saddam planned the 9/11 attack.

Where did the video show GWB saying Saddam is responsible for 9/11 ?
It didn't.
Nice try! [:-bonc01]

Also noticed that you ignored all the statements by the Dems about Saddam having WMDs.
Nice. Very convenient.

he may have doubled his wealth on Obama's watch. 2 X nothing is still nothing Marcel.

Actually, if you read my posts carefully, the only reason that I even mention that loser Bush is to show what a terrible condition he left the country in.

Two unfunded wars, terrible job creation, looming deficits as far as the eye can see.

And the worst part is, Bill Clinton left Bush a balanced budget, for crying out loud. A BALANCED BUDGET!! With a surplus. And what did Bush leave Obama? Read this and weep.

http://www.factcheck.org/2008/02/the-budget-and-deficit-under-clinton/

But let us get more current, no Bush-Bashing today, even though it is so easy.

So I open the Wall Street Journal today, and there on page 5 are the results of the most recent polls done for the WSJ.

What do you guys think of the poll results stating that Republican Congressional approval is at the lowest point since the Journal started polling, 26%, and 53% of those polled blame the Republicans for the shutdown. About 70% disapproved of how the Republicans were running Congress.

And Senator Rafael Cruz is not doing so well either. His negatives have doubled, so of course he blames the skewed polls. Wait a minute, I've heard this before...let me think where. Oh yeah, now I remember!

quote:

The criticism calls to mind many of the "unskew" arguments made by conservative proponents of Mitt Romney in the months leading up to last year's presidential election. Those conservatives criticized most mainstream polls -- which largely reflected an advantage for President Barack Obama over Romney -- because of the partisan identification of poll respondents.

quote:

Cruz has gone from being viewed favorably, 24 percent to 18 percent, in June to being viewed 26 percent favorably and 36 percent unfavorably in the latest poll.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/mike-lee-favorability-poll-98137.html

Keep up the good work, guys. Rafael is absolutely Presidential material, even if he was born in Canada, and I sincerely hope that he gets the Republican nomination for President. Really, I sincerely hope that he does!

You all have a nice week-end.

Oh, BTW, if you had a stock portfolio that was worth $350,000 when Obama came into office, and it is now worth over $950,000 strictly from an increase in the underlying stock and bond value, would you really say that you have not increased your wealth? Really?

he may have doubled his wealth on Obama's watch. 2 X nothing is still nothing Marcel.

He lost me when he made the patently absurd comment that Obama doubled his wealth.

OK, Obama policies more than doubled my wealth. Is that better?

Actually, I've been retired 12 years. That is why having someone in office that makes the stock market go up is more important to me than some dummy (who shall not be named)LOL, that makes the market go down.

Oh, Obamaphones? If you believe that, well, let's be kind and say that you were fooled.

quote:

Since 2009, there has been an urban myth that Obama created a program to provide free phones to low-income Americans at taxpayer expense. There is, in fact, a government program that will provide low-income people with a free or low cost cell phone. It was started in 2008 under George W. Bush.

The idea of providing low-income individuals with subsidized phone service was originated in the Reagan administration following the break-up of AT&T in 1984. (It was expanded and formalized by the Telecommunications Act of 1996.) The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through an independent non-profit, not through tax revenue.

The purpose of it was actually to get people jobs. Now they could give a phone number to a prospective employer to call them in to work.

Sounds reasonable to me, who in his right mind would not want to enable poor people to get a job? Bet you guys did not know that.

http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/09/27/924011/the-truth-about-the-obama-phone/

Your post on the DJ Industrial Average is just wrong, but then again you do not realize that we live in a Republic, not a Democracy.

By the way did you know that BJ Billy Clinton, whose mess President Bush was left to clean up, gave us the biggest Tax increase in history. AND the ONLY tax increase that we had that was retroactive?

I wish that I lived in your simplistic, media driven world of ideas.

We all, as a nation, are going to sink with the current occupant. His sycophants and his critics.
