Well OK, so I've been a bit busy and missed saying hello to everybody. At least I made it in time for Boxing Day. I hope everyone's Christmas and Hanukkah was very special this year. We had a nice time with the family yesterday, got to celebrate with my sis-in-law and her new fiancee. And I got yelled at for spiking the apple cider! Good old mischievous me...

Anyway, I hope it was great for all of you - looking forward to Boating Season 2009!!!
 
It was great, Pete! Nice of you to ask. Eve church then family brunch and dinner with friends. And today was the first of three days on the water! Outing with a friend today, patrol Saturday on another flotilla member's boat, patrol Sunday on ours. Have great holidays and a wonderful 2009!
 
The holidays were fine - I enjoyed the family, ate too much food (and had more than one drink) and started reading the five boating books that were on my Christmas list that hopefully will get me through to spring. Here's to a better 2009 to all!

We're leaving at the end of June and heading West to Lake Erie etc. next year.

(smiles) That would be fun, its a part of the Canal I've always wanted to check out! I don't know what we're doing yet this year. Perhaps we could catch up to you somewhere with the small boat for a couple of days. Let me know your itinerary and I'll discuss it with the Frau...

I was thinking of you guys the other day - we were showing pictures to some friends. How have you folks been lately?

The only Itinerary that's definite is that we're going. We'll be leaving here the weekend that School is out whenever that is. (usually about the third week in June) We'll head to Baldwinsville for the weekend and then leave Monday for Points West. I can make North Tonowanda and the Niagara River in about 2 1/2 days but we plan on taking much longer this time. We did hat leg of th Canal about 6 years ago with a 230 Sea Ray Weekender and for just the two of us it was okay but now we've got the kids too.... so the bigger boat will be better (remember them? lol) so we're going to stretch it out to probably 4 days or maybe even 5. No time constraints so it really doesn't matter to us.
It would be great if you could meet us somewhere with the Boat and cruise along for a few days. Even if you trailered it to North Tonowanda and put it in there. It's only a short hop up the Niagara River to the Buffalo Waterfront.
See what you can do about meeting up sometime in July or so or at the end of June. North Tonawand is a great place for the 4th of July I'm told.

Spent the holidays in the GREAT WHITE NORTH, rubbing elbows with the Aussie population thats taken over the BIG WHITE SKI RESORT in BC. They had the Canadians out numbered there. I won a beer by correctly confirming the first Canadian in existence there (after 3 days at the resort). We had a blast. Rented a chalet with 2 other families, frequented the local pubs and restaurants, and skiied/boarded our buns off in the powder. The best part, no major injuries across the board, and my mended achilles survived its first real test!!!! And it took my mind off of boating (lack of) for a little while.

I suspect 09 will be a tough year for many folks, and especially on the boating world. I am afraid we may lose some close colleagues we were used to seeing at the docks due to the poor economy, but good friends will be friends forever. It's times like this that we can grow closer, and those of us who may be fortunate enough to keep our boats, can help bring a some joy into the hearts of those who miss it. Good luck in 09 to all!
