It seems to get mixed reviews on Active Captain. But many of them are older.

Are the locals really less than welcoming? How is it for dogs? Long walk to a green area? How's the restaurant these days?

Basically, what's the real deal?

Moved there three years ago. The people are great and very helpful. I have been in the area for a very long time and that was the wrap but I can tell you that it is simply not true. Many of us have dogs but it is an issue. The docks are metal and can get too hot for the dogs feet. I put mine in a cart on hot days and others have booties or dink them in. It can be along walk depending where you are put. As far as a marina it is in my opinion by far the nicest around the area with deep water and a very good restaurant and tiki bar. There are no others in the area that offer all of this.

People, both staff and other boaters, are great. Not good for dogs at all, the docks get crazy hot & they are loud walking on them. I was on green dock north end. it was quite a hike especially if I got there late & had to park far from the entrance. Can be miserable lugging things to your boat. You cant beat the deep water. The Tiki Bar is fun but I have never been a fan of the restaurant. There are much better in the area.

I was there for 10 years, left because I wanted to go to a smaller marina with wood docks. Haverstraw had a huge waiting line at one point, then you couldnt give a slip away, then improved, then slid again now seems to be in improvement mode again. Seems that is the history of Haverstraw Marina, up & down. I enjoyed my time there though, had lots of fun & loved having 18ft of water under my boat at low tide!!

Are you looking for a permanent slip, or a transient slip?

It is 1/4 mile walk from silver dock (where they put most transients) to land.

We are at the next marina north of them. We pay 1/2 the price they do, have owners on premises, have about 100' walk from our boat to our car, electric is included in our rate, have excellent mechanics on premises and have wonderful dock neighbors.

We don't have deep water, but the other positives outweigh that for us, and keep us where we are.

Mike makes a good point. It really depends on what you are looking for. If a small boat and water is not as much of an issue, there are other options in the area. Bigger boats become very problematic in the others because of water. I spent 15 years in one of the others and was very happy there but as boat size grew, it was too inconvenient. I personally don't have a problem with the walk at Haverstraw. There are dock hands to carry your stuff to the boat and you just drop off by entrance and go park. The walk is well worth it for the other positives including a pool if that is something you wish. I believe transients have use but if you are a full timer, you have to pay an annual fee. If you are looking for a transient slip, I would highly recommend Haverstraw as it has everything on site. BTW, one thing I enjoy while traveling is convenience to towns and shopping and in this area that is not on the table so you need to be able to manage at the marina.

At 82' you'd probably be on the peninsula, so you wouldn't have to worry about docks.

HM is the only place in that area that could fit you.

Haverstraw is your only option in the area. You will very likely be put on the peninsula where the docks are directly connected to land so dog walking will not be an issue at all. They do have limited space there so I would certainly reserve as soon as you can. Please let us know when you come so we can say hi. Btw, the Peninsula is prime space and reserved for bigger boats. One great thing is that you can drive your car out to the end and throw a stone to it. I would also confirm depth at low tide in that area 7' is a lot and that is close to land so they will probably put you on end. The only other place they can put you is on Blue Dock T which is a very far walk for dogs unless u dink them over to the Peninsula which is 100 yards by water.

There is about 84' at the end of Blue dock but as Hank stated it is a long walk for the dogs. I have no issues with the walk I like the fact the it is quite near the end of the dock.

If you do come for a visit let us know there are plenty of members here for the marina.

Mike,
You are right it is a 1/4 mile walk from silver dock, but if you can't walk, why would you have a boat ?

Most guests do not go on silver, they put them where their boat will fit. Most come to blue dock.

Yes, you do pay 1/2 price but its all what a boater is looking for. I personally believe boats were made to have water under them, but I could be wrong.

HM has changed this season for the better. The new dock master and manager are really making a difference. There might even be an first season incentive coming. Can I count you in for next season ? Wait ! that would make 4 Trojan's

I guess the Trojan's must not be working they seem to be multiplying.

Half Moon Bay Marina has everything you need.
water under the boat
close to restaurants,and stores.
city water, electric and direct tv and phone
you would be at the long dock which is very puppy friendly
give Steve a call 914-271-5400

HM is nice, restaurant is decent.
Just be careful if you hear banjoes playing deliverance theme!
Squeel!

Haverstraw Marina, "The Resort on the River"! One of the best moves we made was to come to Haverstraw. My kids love the marina and have a great time with their friends! Nothing like a hot Sunday sitting at the pool listening to the band with everyone!

Yep, why would you want to take your boat out and enjoy the river? Why even own a boat, just sign up for the pool

Went to HM as a transient 7 or so years ago (that was the year the restaurant burnt down)
Docks do make a lot of noise, no dogs that trip so the heat from the dock was not a problem.
Marina was clean and people were friendly.
Nice marine store there.
Pool was nice with a great view!
They had a shuttle that brought us to a restaurant.
The had or have a gas dock, not sure how the pricing was, but was real convenient and easy to get to.

I don't remember anything being bad or out of the ordinary. I also can't compare it to the other places mentioned since this was the only place we stayed in that neck of the woods.
