Is there any good spots on Long Island's south shore in the vicinity of Wantagh to get a few clams?

Any restrictions ?

Just about any of the flats areas with a nice sandy bottom is a good spot.

You're supposed to have a shellfish permit, but they usually don't bother you if you're just digging a few.

The shellfish permits are from the towns. I've been checked numerous times over the years, so I think it's better to get it. In Babylon it's only $5 for the year. They will also give you a chart showing any closed areas you aren't supposed to clam in.
