I have a 1990 sea ray 270. on the one side there is a spot about 3ft long 1ft high oval shape that is a different color than the rest of the gel coat. the gel coat has a creamy color to it and this has a white color to it. I was wonder what this was. A repair area? A spot that the previous owner buffed the gelcoat away? I am in the process of removing the decals and noticed that the gelcoat is more like white then cream where the decal was. I would like to know what i should do about this. I can add more info if some has any ideas

The original color will be what is under the decals. Can you find the previous owner?...They would be best to answer your question ..
Anything else would only be a guess...

I do not have his info. Last year I buffed it but I used a orbital buffer and all in one product. this year i plan on using a non orbitial buffer and 3m compound. maybe this will get ride of it. I am pretty sure that this is some thing else. it just looks like a water spot or repair or some thing.

Sounds like a repair which was not done properly. Starting with a clean hull that has been compounded to remove all the oxidation, I would have a professional respray the area with the proper colored gel coat. Follow up with a good wax job.

3 X 1 feet is a pretty big water spot. I agree, sounds like a repair to the gelcoat.

I contacted a boat repair place and they seem to think that it is a repair in which the gel coat was not properly matched. I also came across a web site that sells matching gel coat in a spray can that matches the manufactures color. https://www.minicraft.com/index.htm
has anybody tried this stuff?
