Starbright with teflon seems to produce a good shine and smooth surface after compounding older gel coat.
Anyone have any experience or comments about durability?
Tests have supposedly concluded Teflon added to marine wax/polish has no benefit. But I've used Starbright w/ teflon on my smooth topsides & rails for years with good, pretty long-lasting results, all I really care about.
I use it, but seriously cannot say that it lasts any longer than other marine waxes or finishes. It doesn't produce a mirror finish, but is quite good.
you should never use anything with Teflon or silicone on the gelcoat because if you ever need to repair a damaged area, the new gelcoat will not bond well to the existing gelcoat. Teflon and silicone get into the gelcoat on a microscopic level and is almost impossible to remove.
